I was wondering if it is aganist any rules to use say a rice cooker or Forman Grill in a studio. If I was traveling with just DH a studio with the ablity to do a little cooking would be more than enough space for us. Anyone else cook in a Studio?

I'm not sure, but I was thinking about that myself. I was wondering about a small toaster oven. I have a george foreman but they are a pain to clean.

I'm taking a small crock pot, this trip. In the past, I have used an electric frypan without incident.

I would think that cooking without a exhaust fan might smell up the place. Not that the fans in a units with a kitchen do much of a good job.

I have heard the Mousekeepers complain about Guests that smell up the units and how they have to treat them to try and get rid of the odors.

I've read of many who bring along crock pot, electric fry pan, etc. The counter area is rather limited & as noted by previous poster Bill studio units lack exhaust fan. Also, aside from 2 mugs & glasses studios are only stocked with paper plates and plastic utensils.

Lack of work space, feeling like I'm preparing/cooking/eating in my bedroom & lingering cooking odors would be a deal breaker for DH & I as far as cooking in a studio goes, but to each their own comfort level, if you're willing to try it out then that is probably the best way to determine how it works for you. :goodvibes

I've smelled bacon in the hallways and loved the smell! If you're cooking something good, I might come knocking at your door! Unless you burn something to a crisp, I can't imagine the smell annoying anyone in mousekeeping.

I have a small grill and have made grilled cheese sandwiches often, with no problems.

Just don't cook on the patio/balcony. That's not permitted.

Great ideas, about the slow cooker, and frypan. As I live close to VGC, I can bring those along with groceries, or pre-made items from home when staying in a studio.

Don't forget the crock pot liners. They make clean up a real snap.

done the forman grill - no problems.

you can also cook in the microwave - eggs, bacon, etc

We have never used a grill or e-pan, but I think as long as you're not cooking something that is particularly smokey or smelly then you should be ok. Those so called exhaust fans don't really exhaust they just recirculate (in the DVC units that is), and the filters in them are like gutter guard material... anything smaller than the size of a kernel of corn fits through it.

We are hoping to do this next week. We just ordered an Owners Locker and will be picking up a small crock pot when we get to Disney. We love the liners and won't use our crock pot without them.

There are some great microwave cookbooks out there, but, you do need utensils, and microwave safe items.

I am planning to do some studio cooking on my next stay at HHI in about 6 weeks...these tips are great...keep them coming! I want to have some good ideas lined up to make things easier for when I get there.
(We are going to HHI and we have food allergies so we won't be eating out much - grilled sandwiches and crockpot food will be our main meals).

Brought a George Forman for 2 weeks in a studio at BWV and used it all the time.... Fit in my suitcase fine. We drove to GCV and brought a toaster oven and electric grill. Made breakfast each morning. Stopped at food for less and bought food and paper plates. For Christmas I received a 4 in one grill that makes waffles, is a griddle and opens flat for a large grill or griddle. Can't wait to bring it and try it out on our next trip. I also love the smell of cooking bacon when I walk down the hallway.....I usually buy the precooked bacon from Costco and heat it up in the microwave. Then use the toaster oven to crisp up leftovers from the restaurants we ate at the day before. I also plan to bring it to Hawaii. We did a trade to Hawaii at the Knanapalli Beach resort and the one bedroom is only a partial kitchen with no stove. They said we could ask for a electric frying pan if one is available from housekeeping but I'm not taking any chances....

My Georg Foreman has grill plates and a flat frying pan type plate and a waffle iron plate...I think it can do almost anything! I'm glad to hear your cooking worked out so well!

I have used my Forman grill for bacon. sausage, scrambled eggs and grilled panini. I have purchased convieneince foods to reheat in the microwave--still less expensive than eating out. Never had any issues with counter space or "lingering food smells"
