I know no drinks allowed but can you carry on food items? Snack like items. We are flying SW where of course there will be no meal at dinner time for my DKids and I need to able to have more for them then the snack pak SW gives.
TIA

Good question, we always fly Spirit and it is the same way.

Yes, you can. No condiment packets, though -- if you want dressing on a salad or mustard on a sandwich, you have to add it before you reach security.

Frozen food is currently the only approved coolant. Think frozen fruit or veggies.

DH and I carried our dinner on our Southwest flight yesterday. We stopped at Earl of Sandwich on our way out of Downtown Disney. We had sandwiches, chips and brownies. Carried them on with no problems.

I like the idea of frozen grapes as a coolant.

It's all about the packaging - peanut butter in a jar = NO, peanut butter on bread in a sandwich = YES.

The most common items not allowed are pudding, yogourt, salad dressing, packets of jam/jelly/peanut butter/Nutella. For a complete list of food items check out tsa.gov. If it's not on the list, it usually means that it's not a concern (they can't list EVERY item)

Check your airport map to see what outlets are near your airline - sometimes there are no viable food outlets when I travel. And check your airline for buy on board - you may be surprised. I like United's RiteBite box for $5 - hummus, organic crackers, pita chips, Toblerone, cheese, can of tuna, and box of raisins. Enough for two - I actually buy a box most flights and put it in my laptop bag for those times that I arrive late at night - instant dinner in the hotel room!

The OP says she's flying SWA. Unless it is an early morning flight, no munchies except peanuts, or Plane Crackers (airplane-shaped saltines.)
On early flights, SWA also offers granola bars.

Sorry, never flew SWA, so didn't know that they don't offer a choice (TED, the low cost wing of United, does do the boxes)

SO, for anyone who is not flying SW, check your airlines website - you may be pleasantly surprised! ;)

LOL! :rotfl2: So, I've seen frozen grapes mentioned as good for this purpose. Any other recommendations that would freeze well and stay frozen for longer? We won't be eating it - just want something to keep other food cold! :thumbsup2

I've read that seafood shippers are getting best results using peas, carrots and corn. Basic cheap mixed veggies.

"In your grocer's freezer case" :teeth:

Do they really think a terrorist can't figure out that he needs to put his poison peanut butter between bread slices and not carry it on in the jar with the skull and crossbones on it? :confused3

I think it has more to do with explosives than poison. Not sure how you'd blow up a PB&J :)

I looked at the TSA site. Here is the list of the premitted and prohibited items. tsa

Please note, you have to leave the wine behind, but the cork screw and a 7 inch screwdriver are alright
