Many of you know about our one eyed wonder Ojo. Pronouced "o-ho"...it's Spanish for eye. My daughter found him two years ago under her car, he was dragged from his litter by some animal..and his eye was injured. She said he hurt his poor little "ojo" and the name stuck. Vet figured him to be about four weeks old at the time.
I digress.
Ojo was mauled yesterday by a couple of grey hounds while cutting through their yard. They are rescue dogs..and frankly they are good dogs..but they do kill every rabbit, or opposum that crosses their path. Poor little Ojo, who doesn't have a healthy fear of dogs..because he thinks ours is his mother crossed paths with them.
He's in bad shape.
It's a nightmare of a story and I've tried to type it out twice..and frankly..bottom line is this. I'm spending money I really don't have to fix this pet, because I can't kill the cat a week before Christmas and three weeks after losing my dad. I know one has nothing to do with the other..but emotionally speaking..I'm a wreck. I really just can't take much more. Christmas is in a week, and I know I don't have babies..but I can't look at those kids on Christmas morning knowing that on top of everything else that's happend this year..now the cat is dead. Can't do it..nope. Bob said we need to do it..we've lost too much already. I know he's just a cat..and lord knows for the money we could have had one with TWO eyes..but our hearts just can't take another heartbreak.
So...my older son.. thank God..offered to split the cost of the cats care. Which is off the charts. Most will say I'm nuts. Yet..I just can't loose this freakin' little one eye pet of mine. He's a freak of nature..but he's our freak of nature. He must have put up one hell of a fight to get away from them..and if he's got it in him..I've got to give him that chance.
So..if you don't mind..a prayer or two for Ojo...would be appreciated.

(jeeze, you people must think I'm so pathetic..:sad2: )

Sorry..I meant to post this on the community camping board. Moderators please feel free to remove this. Sorry for the inconveniece.

St Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, pray with us for Phyllis's cat Ojo, who was seriously injured on 12/15/09. Make use, we implore you, of that particular privilege given to you to bring visible and speedy help to this much loved member of her family. Come to Ojo's assistance in this great need that he may receive the consolation and help from Heaven in all his sufferings. Be with Phyllis's family, also, to help them through this difficult time.

Thank you,

Oh, Phyllis! I'm so sorry. You need a :hug:, my friend. I'm saying prayers for Ojo!!

I am so sorry to hear about your kitty. It is not silly to ask for prayers for animals. They are our family not just a cat or a dog, etc.

Personally I think the people who own the greyhounds should be helping out with the vet bill if not paying all of it. They should be responsible. I just went back to reread and see that the kitty was going through their yard. Not sure how that would work but you still think they would try and help.

I will be praying for your kitty.

I'm so so sorry that this has come on you now, especially on the heels of losing your dad. I read your tribute to him on the Community board and it was the most touching things I've read in a very long time. Life really isn't fair sometimes. :sad1:

We'll be sending lots of prayers and healing thoughts Ojo's way.

No such thing as just a cat or just a dog, they're family. I have a cat who sits right by me when I'm on the computer. I guess to make sure everything is correct.

Puff checking out the DIS.

She's especially interested in the pet threads so I knew I had to respond to your request.

Here's a prayer for Ojo and for you and your family as well and God Bless.

Thank you for your prayers...maybe they are working...
while I didn't mean to post this in both places, Ojo could use double the prayer. I wanted to thank you for your hugs and prayers and give you an update on Ojo.

Update on Ojo:

He made it through his surgery. They did find damage to his intestines..but they were not perforated, so I guess they were put back where they need to be. Vet said at this point he's on heavy duty antibiotics. Watching for any tissue damage. He said he had some massive injuries. This guy isn't the type to do needless surgery though. He didn't rush into anything..because he wanted to observe the cat most of the day and make sure he was stable. If he didn't think the cat stood a chance he's a straight shooter and would tell us. Of course he doesn't guarantee that because he survived the surgery he won't have complications. We pretty much have to wait and see what the next few days bring. We've been using this vet for 20 plus years. While his usual vet didn't do the surgery...the "head vet" so to speak did it. He's not much for chatting it up..but he said he's cautiously optimistic. I don't want to get my hopes up to much..but that's good news coming from him. He's pretty guarded usually. He did say that it must have been a BIG dog that got him. Poor Ojo..I cringe when I think about how he was fighting for his life. They were tossing him around like a rag doll. He has fractured ribs and lacerations all over him.
As for the mauling..we are 90% sure it's our neighbors dogs..but in all honesty, we didn't actually witness the mauling. I happen to know that they took their dog to the vet because it had gotten "into it" with a cat. Now...what are the chances that it was a different cat than ours? True.. the cat went through their yard. But it's ridiculous the neighbors next to them have to be very careful with their small dog..because the greyhounds have tried to eat him as well. I tell ya..I gotta get out of this town. I'll deal with the neighbors tomorrow. If they want to donate to the Ojo bill..I wouldn't refuse it..but I don't hold out much hope in that regard.
We will be able to visit him tomorrow and at this point they anticipate he will be there through to next week. They even have someone watching him tonight.

I'm so sorry for what happened to Ojo and we are praying for him and his recovery. We went through the same thing almost 20 years ago and its something we can't put out of our minds. Our yorkie went into the neighbors yard and was mauled by their two boxers. Our little dog survived, barely, but our cat wasn't so lucky. The recovery process was long, but she did come back and live until she was fifteen. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. :hug: I don't know what I would do without my furry babies. :sad1: I don't have children of my own but they are my babies. Please keep us posted on Ojo's progress.

Phyllis, soo sorry to hear about this after all you've been through. We'll be saying lots of prayers for poor little Ojo, and sending you lots of hugs. Stay strong and know that we are here for you anytime. :hug:

as a crazy cat lady in training, this is turning my stomach in a knot.
im so sorry :sad1: hope he recovers well!

Phyllis,
I hardly read DIS anymore but just found this now. I hope that your kitty is getting better every day. I am so sorry, I did not know about your dad either. My sympathy to your whole family. You have all been through so much!

Your poor cat trusted those dogs; I feel so bad. Greyhounds can be nice dogs but I would never trust them around a small animal; i guess it's their instinct.

Well, it sounds like he's a cat w/9 lives and I applaud you for taking on the expense. I always say, I can live w/o the money, but not the animal. Keep us posted!

I will say a prayer for your whole family (including Ojo!) tonight.:hug:

We are praying for you and your special cat! Hope that she is well and please keep us up to date! :hug:

Cat's Prayer.....

I hope I'm not asking too much, Lord;
All I want is a home of my own,
And to know when my next meal is coming
Instead of the scraps I get thrown.

I've been out in the cold for so long now,
Just coping as best as I can;
But it's not been so long I've forgotten
The touch of a soft caring hand.

I look in house windows at Christmas,
As cats doze by the fire, quite replete;
How I'd welcome a box in the kitchen,
And tasty food for me to eat.

For me there was tinsel and giftwrap,
But the fun didn't last very long.
They put me outside with the rubbish;
I still don't know what I did wrong.

I really don't want to be greedy;
At the moment I'm all skin and bone,
So would it be too much to hope for
That someone will give me a home?
