can you add things to dishes while on DDP?

for example, at via napoli or tutto italia, can you ask for a pasta dish with chicken without being charged extra? there are pastas that automatically come with shrimp or chicken, but some of the ones i'd like to try don't.

There are some restaurants where a menu item will say, for example:

"Pasta with sauce $15.00. Add Chicken $17.99."

I think on those dishes, since it is in effect an already-existing entree option, you can have the pasta with chicken for your 1 TS credit. But if the menu just lists the pasta, then you additionally ordering a chicken breast on top would be the same as adding a side item. You have to pay for sides oop.

I'm not familiar with how the current dining plans work, but if I would think you can add anything that's not covered and just pay for it.

I think Quin has a good example. I have never tried what you suggest. But at any restaurant anywhere in the world, I would expect it would be an extra cost to add a main ingredient like chicken to a dish, if you even can. I don't think it has anything at all to do with the DDP.

Any restaurant, anywhere, is going to charge extra if you ask for the addition of a major ingredient. While some of the Disney owned restaurants have been liberal in their interpretation of the rules of the dining plan (e.g. milkshakes as the beverage, substituting sides, etc), asking for the addition of chicken for free is unrealistic. Because Via Napoli has been a stickler about the dining plan I imagine they would be among the least likely to do it.

I think it depends on the wording of the menu. For instance

Insalate de Cesare - the classic Caesar salad with chicken $22.00; with shrimp $24.00

In that case you'd be able to order it with either chicken or shrimp and use your TS credit.

However if the menu read

Insalate de Cesare - the classic Caesar salad $18.00 - add chicken for $4.00, or add shrimp for $6.00

Well then you probably would have to pay the add fee separately.

hmm, okay. not a problem, i will pay, but i just want to plan ahead so there are no surprises. thank you!

It may not be just a matter of paying. If it is offered on the menu at an additional cost, than yes you can pay.
But if it is not offered on the menu at all, it probably isn't avaialable at all.

Watch out for these two restaurants - they are not operated by Disney and at least Via Napoli has been known to be very strict on its following of the dining plan allotments. It is possible they won't let you have anything "extra."
