Can World Passport Points Change?

We keep going back and forth on the number of points we should be buying.

I personally think we need 160 points because of future trading value into the World Passport Program.

It looks like you need 160 points for 1 week during High Season.

Does anyone know if this number can be changed?

I know the points for Disney properties is not going to change but can the World Passport Program?

Yes it changes. When we began looking at DVC in 2003 it only took 150 for 1 bedroom, high season trade. We didn't purchase until 2005, but still went with the basic 150 point package. We feel with borrowing and banking we can cover anything we want to trade for, since we won't be trading every year.

Absolutely it can change. Point requirements for any option in the Disney Collection, the Adventurer's Collection, the Conceirge Collection, the World Passport Collection or the LBVTC can ( and do) change on an annual basis. That is why the best economic use of DVC points is at a DVC resort.

Yea, as previous posters have mentioned, resorts on the collection set their own point requirements and I bet it generally goes up on a yearly basis

Actually, the World Passport Collection presently is a fixed number of points that varies by season but not by resort (though season can vary by resort). But there is no assurance that points cannot go up or that there will be a fixed point system in the future.

until a few years ago you would be looking at OKW in choice, dream and magic season

so the points requirements for a 1-bedroom has gone down for world passport (II).

however the points for a studio has gone UP.

MS would use OKW or HH which ever had the lower points

there are for a 1-bedroom
Choice season 160 - HH
choice season 172 - OKW

dream season 222 - HH
dream season 196 - OKW

magic season 218 - OKW

so it has gone down.

I thought the idea of the plan was the point amounts would not change.

I was going to buy 160 pts to cover 1 week in High Season at a World Passport resort but if the points change, we may never have enough for trading.

I know it is best to use your pts at a DVC property however I was thinking about the future.

What is the value in trading if the point amount keeps increasing?

trading is not a good idea for DVC points.

Now once a every few years it is okay. but every year or even every other year trading out is not a wise decision with DVC points.

DVC is for the Disney nuts who LOVE WDW.

II wants more DVC units. So they agreed to this. I think it will stay for quiet a while since it is working. more members are parting with their points than in the past.

but nothing is guaranteed!!!!

Start with a basic 150 package (or 160 if you prefer) and see how you use your points...you can always add more later if you feel like you need more for your pattern of use.

That is true only for the DVC resorts. By contract, the total number of points it takes to reserve every room in a DVC resort for one year cannot change. DVC can reallocate the points -if they make some days/rooms cost more, they need to make some days/rooms cost less so that the net change is zero.

That is not true for any option other than the DVC resorts. The cost ofn those can and does change.

As others have already posted, there are less expensive timeshares to buy if you want to trade out on a regular basis. My advice is to buy only the amount of points that you think you will use at a DVC resort. Buy a less expensive timeshare to use for trading.

What I was really considering is in 20 years when I think I will probably not want to travel to Disney every year, we could use our points to go somewhere else instead.

We are looking at buying SSR so our little guy will have it for when he is older.

He will be 52 years old when SSR expires so I am thinking really long term!!!

Partly true, it is fixed to a degree but it's not necessarily the same for all resorts for a given week even if in the same area. But it will be the same most of the time. This program could vanish or totally change tomorrow. Buying extra points to exchange is a poor choice, IMO, for a number of reasons including some of the ones listed here.

But Resort A will not vary in points from Resort B for any reason other than the season or type of accomodation under the current system.

Also, keep in mind that if you deposit a week in advance with SFX (San Francisco Exchange) www.sfx-resorts.com that you can get upto 3 weeks for your one week deposit. (One week, plus one bonus week, plus one Mexico Week).

I see and agree. It does change marginally from time to time as well.

Yes it does. Only thing that is certain is that it can be uncertain, LOL.
