Can we? Should we? A Spring 2009 PTR - New 5/6 - The TR has begun!

I agree; it just needs a little time to sink in! The countdown calendar will make it more real...

I know you're happy now! No more hush-hush... you can talk about Disney all you want!! :dance3:

Congratulations!

Kathy

Sometimes I wonder if it isn't more exciting for us as adults! The anticipation part! :rotfl: I am sure your boys will be bouncing off the walls by next month. We have two boys, too. We are preparing a surprise visit in June for our boys B-days... I am trying to stay distracted so I don't spoil it! How exciting that it is getting closer for you!!:)

Glad you told them...sorry that weren't :dance3: with you....I know how you felt because of our Mae's reaction when we told our kids.

But now the fun will begin!

Congrats on telling the boys! :cool1:

My kids were kind of in shock when we told them. They just looked at us really strange and thought we were kidding. :confused3 After if sank in they were very excited!! :yay: :yay:

Ugh....darn Wii. I'm sure they will get more excited as you talk to them about it.

They already have... a little!

Kathy

I think we'll make the countdown calendar this weekend - DH has to work so that will give us something to do. :thumbsup2

:welcome: Thanks for saying "Hi"! And I would agree... the anticipation part is definitely more exciting for the adults. ;) Are you doing a PTR? I'll check it out if you are.

I had Mae in the back of my mind. :rotfl:

I bet the closer you get to the trip the more excited they will get. :goodvibes

I'm sure they will - then we'll be kicking ourselves for telling them!

Your boys sound like my DH when he plays video games!

The Wii is out of hand - we've had to restrict it to 30 minutes each after dinner and a little extra on the weekend. DH is the worst offender! :lmao:

Congrats on telling the boys! :cool1:

I was thinking of you guys too - definitely didn't get the reaction you got. :headache: But they are warming up to it. They are certainly not against the idea, but they just weren't jumping for joy.:confused3

Here are the DHS photos I've been promising... October 2007 is up first!

They'll come around.

Great photos from DHS! Especially my favorite part of The Great Movie Ride (the Wizard of Oz scene). :goodvibes

On our last trip - the boys knew we were going to Disney World, but they didn't know we were actually leaving a day earlier than we had expected. When they got home from school, we had a letter from Mickey all ready. I videotaped their reaction (we were all packed up and just waiting for the boys to get home). Sully didn't want to go. :sad2: It was a Friday and he was looking forward to playing with his friend. I stopped recording when I realized I wasn't going to have that special moment. :rotfl: He came around though.

Woo-Hoo the secret is OUT!! That must feel sooooooo good! I'm sure the boys will get more excited as the trip gets closer!

Nice DHS pics! My youngest is now 8 and too old for Playhouse Disney..or so he says! :sad1: We got a pic of him two years ago with JoJo and Goliath but he wasn't interested in the show. Oh well...on to more big-boy stuff I guess!

A surprise like that might have worked out for us - but I think my kids just need to process. Today we had questions about who would feed our fish and frogs (we have 3 aquatic frogs). We'll be working on the countdown calendar shortly. I'm sure they will love that.

I really thought Alex would be over the Playhouse Disney stuff by now but he's still into it. He doesn't watch it very much - but he still knows all of the characters and I'm sure they'll both enjoy the show. But who knows... I've been wrong before. :confused3

Yesterday while we were out we stopped at Ben Franklin and picked up some supplies for our countdown calendars! :cool1:

After encountering a very rude customer waiting behind us to check out, we made our way out of the store and headed home to create! The kids were actually very good in the store, but checking out can be hard for the kids, especially Alex, since there is waiting involved. He wandered over to a rack that had a bunch of stuffed animals on it. He asked if he could get one and I said no. He accepted my response - which in itself is a big deal. Then he belched - really loud - and followed it up with an "excuse me". :rotfl: We keep telling him that it's very nice to say "excuse me" but that he also needs to burp quieter - especially in public.:rolleyes1

I continued paying and then I hear Alex say "what?" loudly. I look over at him and he is saying, "Why are you staring at me?" in a not so nice tone to the lady. Apparently she was somehow bothered by his behavior and was staring at him. She says to him something about his bad behavior.:headache: I turned around and said, "Cut him some slack, he has autism" - which I hate to use as an excuse, but he wasn't doing anything wrong - he just burped out loud and hasn't figured out the social etiquette thing yet. Then she has the nerve to say to me, "Well I just feel sorry for you." :scared1: I wish I had something snappy to say back to her but all I could come up with at the time was "Oh you don't need to feel sorry for me!" I finished paying and we left. And she was stuck in the store with several other customers around her who I'm sure heard her rude comments.

Oh... and when we were in the store picking up the posterboard, I asked the kids what color we should get and they each picked their favorite color - red & blue. :headache: I guess I shouldn't have asked. So I decided why not, we'll make 2 countdowns! So that's what we did. Believe it or not, I didn't have enough Mickey Heads so I copied them on the color copier. I bet you can't even tell which ones are the copies... :confused3

It worked out perfectly because we leave on a Saturday and today is Sunday. We put a sticker up each day - the kids like to do that stuff in the morning. So they put the first sticker up this morning. If you notice, the Mickey Heads are 7 across and go Sunday - Saturday just like a calendar. Alex is really into calendars so he'll be able to follow along with it perfectly!

I also want to share the guidebooks I found for the kids.

IMG_2416.jpg

Each ride has a page and the book tells about if it's scary or not, any special things about the ride - like if it's wet or dark, if it has a FP or not, and any hidden Mickey's. There are stickers that come with the book - a unique sticker for each ride. This is the sample page that tells you how to use the book:
IMG_2417.jpg

There are also a few pages that talk about unique things at Disney. This page tell how each monorail is a different color and has a checklist to see if you ride/see each color.
IMG_2420.jpg

There are two pages for each day of the trip for the kids to write stuff about what we did that day, the weather, favorite rides, etc.

These are the stickers for each ride:

Here is the TSM page:

And the ToT page:

So far they have looked through them a little bit. I think we'll match up the stickers before we go because I'm afraid they will use the book as a checklist if we wait to put on the stickers after going on each ride. Then they'll be upset if we miss any rides. I don't think we'll take the books to the parks with us - too heavy to lug around all day - which brings me to the stroller discussion I want to have next.

Sometime this week... Plus the budget, car rental discussion and the last park, Animal Kingdom.

In regards to the person (as she is no Lady) at the store....some people are just A holes.

I love those guide books....I want one for myself!!! I think they will be great for the boys at night in the room to do to help them unwind.

Yes & Yes!!

Luckily the lady didn't bug me that much - I've had people make comments before and I leave the situation with steam coming out of my ears! Alex didn't do anything wrong so I knew it was just the "person's" issue. :sad2:

The books are great!! I found them through a link on the allears newsletter a few weeks ago. They offered a discount if you buy two so I figured what the heck. The website is just www.Guidetothemagic.com.
