can we share a pin code if..

We are traveling with friends, arriving on same date. They are probably going to leave sooner than us. What is rule with pin? Do our rooms have ot be side by side, or just at same resort? Do our dates have to be exactly the same, and do they have to be booked at the same time? If I were to book first, how do we use code for them?

I was told by 2 different CMs that as long as you stayed at the same resort and your dates "overlapped", you would be fine.
