We are flying souwthwest in June.I would really like to pack a small dvd player to hook up in all star movie room.We will be there for 10 days and thought the ability to watch a dvd would be a great option.Just wondering if anyone has checked anything like this when flying?I am also wanting to pack a small travel coffee maker? Thanks so much!

Can you check it? Yes.

Should you check it? I wouldn't...anything electronic or of value is just asking to have it disappear or get damaged.

think I would buy a cheap one from amazon and have it shipped to the hotel. :)

But if you don't care about losing it then I don't think it would be a problem. I mean we bring the girls DVD player as a carryon all the time.

Electronics, fragile and items of value should NOT be checked in your checked baggage, both from a breakage as well as a theft concerns (not even from the TSA, but fellow travelers, baggage handlers, etc.).

A DVD player can be placed in your carry-on as long as it fits within your carry-on allowances or inside a carry-on item. You may be subject to a little more security check (very minimal if at all), but otherwise, you shouldn't have any issues.

You will need to take it out of the bag to be scanned at security, just like a laptop.

Yes. This. Take it out ahead of time and put it in your own bin. Such a pain if you forget.

Last trip DH threw the girls DVD player in the carryon and I didn't know it was there. Since we were flying Jetblue and had the tv's we decided to pack it. He changed his mind and failed to share. Mind you he wasn't even flying with us.

They looked at me like I was some sort of criminal trying to sneak one by. On top of that it held up the whole line and of course the girls went in ahead of me and they wouldn't let them come back through. What a MESS!

they used to make us turn it on and everything ~ but we haven't been asked to do that in a few years.

My husband checked our Playstation 2 last year when we went to Disney. It made it there fine (I told him that someone might steal it, but he wasn't worried). It also made it home fine. We did put our sweatshirts around it to protect it a bit more, but if TSA opens your bags, they might move them. Regardless, it made it to Disney & home & still works fine.

We always take a portable DVD Player on the plane with us. It usually keeps my DD occupied for the entire flight. Make sure you bring headphons too.

I would imagine that, most of the time, these things work out just fine. But, it is no great hardship to take something like this as a carryon, and that's the way I would do it. We see reports of things stolen from luggage often enough.
