My husband is in the National Guard - can we book Shades of Green? Will be calling them, but thought y'all might be able to answer quicker...

TIA for your help.

I read somewhere recently that widows of people in the military are eligible for SOG. Has anyone done this before? My father was a POW in WWII and passed away a few years ago so I was wondering if my mom would qualify. We didn't know about the hotel when he was alive, unfortunately, so we've never gotten the chance to stay there. Then once we found out about it, I didn't know about the widows on our last trip with her, since I thought the actual military person had to be with you in order to stay there. This would be great for her though since she loves the resorts in the area around SOG and would get a great rate. Anyone know anything about this?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that she's never remarried, since I think I read that was a qualification.

justhat ...
Your mother must have a dependent ID card. If she does then yes she can be your sponsor. You can call and book as long as you have the info they need. I think all I needed for DH's info was social securty number, branch of service etc. Info that owuld be on an id card.

Thanks, sha_lyn, that's great to hear. She would much rather stay there than the hotels I choose which she considers to be far away (AKL and CSR for example). This would be a great way for her to have her own hotel room at a nice resort in the location she wants.

just that--

Here is what SoG specifically says about surviving family members:

"-Unremarried surviving spouses of personnel who died while on active duty or while in retired status

-Unremarried former spouses who were married to military members for at least 20 years while the military member was on active duty to the Armed Forces

-Orphans of military members, when not adopted by new parents, under 21 years old (or over if they are incapable of supporting themselves, or 23 years old if they are in full-time study)"

I can't tell from your post if your mom meets one of the above guidelines. But I also found this:

"Former Prisoners of War (POWs) and spouses of POW or Servicemembers missing in action may use clubs"

You may want to follow the link that's in one of the above posts--that's a page that describes who is eligible to utilize SoG. Good luck!

What does 'clubs' mean?

justthat ... she can book up to 3 rooms and purchse up to 15 (?) tickets per trip. The savings on tickets through SoG is great. We get the stars and stripes which includes all of the parks (water parks too) and Disney Quest.

SoG is under renovation right now but is suppose to reopen late this yr. For now SoG guest are relocated to CR NGW

Is there a website that lists the ticket options you can purchase through SOG? I didn't know that they had different tickets from the regular Disney tickets.

The website is: www.shadesofgreen.org

Once you get on, go down the black vertical panel on the right side of the screen. You will see a category that reads "Attraction Ticket Prices". It will be the second to the last choice on the panel.

Have fun browsing!!!

Just that; enlisted club, officer's club, etc. :)

What is 'enlisted club"etc.?

Most military bases have clubs on board for enlisted personnel and officers. The enlisted club would be for those ranks from E-1 through E-9.

Thanks. I have never been to a military base so I had never heard of that before.

justhat,

Call early! They book up easily 6-8 months out. If they have no rooms, she can go on a waitlist, and may have good luck with that. Last year, I called right at 30 days out, and they were able to get us a room. I think I got lucky because their cancellation is 30 days out and if you don't cancel by then you lose a one night deposit. This year I made a last minute (1month) decision to go next week, and while I was not lucky enough to get the Contemporary, I did get overflow rate at CBR for $121 a night (includes taxes). They also had overflow rates for Poly and other resorts, but it was more than I wanted to spend since we only sleep and swim at the resort.
Also, SoG also sells AP tickets, even though it is not listed on their website. I called and they offer a better discount than I've seen anywhere else. They are located in the Contemporary NGW while renovations are going on at SoG.
Happy planning!
