Yesterday it was over 60 degrees in IL on January 10th. I wanted the inside of the car really cleaned out - did not want to pay for it to be detailed. I cleaned it myself without a coat in January. On Tuesday I noticed DS, needed a hair cut, as soon as he got home from school we went back outside and I cut his hair for no mess inside and the hair trimmings help keep the rabbits from eating the schrubs. Today we are under weather advisory for a winter storm.
I did 6 credits worth of CE from home yesterday. I mailed in rebate check for over $250 -11% back from Menards. (DH does not like filling them out, said if I would do it, I could spend it on a new kitchen sink). After the kids went to bed I finished a book from the library.
DM called while she was in town - picked up 2 gallons of milk for $1.99 for us, I'll fetch it when I take her two pairs of pants to alter for DS.
Ate all meals from the pantry. Hung up clothes from the washing machine. Found only 70 cents put it in the jar for- a tablet maybe from Apple.
I'm off work 6 days, I will do CE again today. And I do have another book I can start that I got for 25 cents.
What did you do to save money?

I ran errands in an organized loop yesterday so I wouldn't have to drive in the snow today.

This morning I went through the insurance claims for 2011. Discovered a $335 temporary crown that the dentist hadn't filed for. I called the office and they explained "insurance won't pay for the permanent crown if we file for a temp. So we never file for those." That means I should file it as a flexible health savings account expense. Taking the time to go through all that detailed paperwork should net me $200.

I hung a load of wash on my drying rack.

oooh I need this!:thumbsup2 I saved today by NOT shopping online or otherwise....I tried the Jan no buy thread,I think I'm failing this month(sigh)

I decided that till next weeks shopping trip to Aldi we are not buying any more groceries, even if that means my people eat all the fresh fruit in the bowl,I'll make frozen fruit smoothies till then!;)
Made chicken soup for dinner tonight using premade frozen stock (from the last time I cooked a chicken) and a bit of a leftover box of stock in the fridge- will make some GF biscuits w/shredded cheese to go with it......
that reminds me, I need to make something for dessert tonight....
I do NOT need anything, keep reminding myself!

I took back a DS case to Kmart b/c dd got 2 for her b-day.$10 back.

I planned my meals around some stuff I already have in the freezer and pantry.
Last week we had 2 days of bad weather and I couldn't get to the store so we ate what we had here. It made me realize how much food we have that we need to eat up! So, that is what I am working on.

I read books from the library, too.

DH went to the dentist and didn't get xrays on his teeth,so I guess that saved us money! (We don't have dental insurance) He didn't do it to be cheap, he is a physicist and thinks that all the radiation is bad for you. The dentist said it was ok for him to have them infrequently, and wait until next year.

Last night I found dd11's glasses after looking for them all day. They had been missing for 24 hours. I was so glad we won't have to buy another pair!

I'm saving money for Disney, of course!

I bake half a box of muffins at a time since only two of us eat them.

Yesterday I realized that we only eat two muffins each--the other two always get thrown away. So, rather than bake dough in the paper muffin cup liners and then throw them away, I made 4 muffins and threw the extra dough directly into the garbage. Paper muffin cups are only 2 cents each but that is 4 cents I'm no longer throwing away.

DH attempted a repair on our TP holder. If it works, we can return the replacement we picked up when running errands.

Why would you not just freeze the rest of the muffins? That would save you from using the oven twice and throwing out the extra dough to save those paper muffin cup liner.:confused3

Bought a mirror off of CL last week - paid a little less than what I was budgeting for it in a store but I feel better about it since I know the $$ went directly into someone's (a very nice someone too) pocket. I am also CLing the old bathroom mirror (big builder mirror) - normally probably would have just chucked it but I'm on a craigslisting roll - and someone will buy it! Reduce, reuse, recycle.

Got a new fridge over black friday (first new fridge ever!) sold the old one to a friend of DH's from work.

Selling someone a TV today via CL (old one a friend who was moving gave me to CL) so that's some $$ in our pocket.

Eating our way through the pantry and freezer this month. Also made soup from ham bones for the first time - success!
