Whilst phoning to enquire about cancelled flights in September, it has transpired that Virgin have changed the date of our flight from the 9th Sept to the 8th Sept!!!! without even telling us of this

Can they do this??

I know they can change flights with this much time to go, but and a big BUT they must tell you this and if it is not suitable for you come to some arrangement. Have you called them to ask why the date change?
Claire ;)

I rang Virgin Holidays, they tell me I'm booked for the 9th like I paid for, I rang Virgin Atlantic and they tell me I'm booked for the 8th!!

Also Virgin Holidays tell me the vs27 flight hasn't been changed and Virgin Atlantic tell me it has. I'm none the wiser. I've been told I'll be contacted Monday about all of this - does anyone really believe they'll ring me??

Unbelievable.

Forwarned is forarmed and all that - here is a link to the Air Transport Users Council, which gives details about the new European Regulations on flight changes

You are pretty limited where a flight is changed or cancelled this far out, but I think you would have the right to a full refund if you didn't want to take the altered flight and make other arrangements (I don't know how this affects things if you have a holiday package though :confused3)
Good luck!

Doesn't give you much confidence does it? If they have to change things then so be it, but they have a duty to inform you and surely it would be helpful if they could decide which flights actually ARE going.

I'm waiting for tomorrow to see if I'm in the system and if not then a stern telephone call is in order.

They should inform you of any changes. Hope you get it sorted :)

There is still space in PE on the 9th, which is what we have booked, so it's not a space issue. VH tells me that we are still booked for the 9th, so I'm going along with that. VH will have to take it up with VA if there is a problem.

Interestingly according to VA website, the cancelled flights are on days other than when we travel, so I suspect VH are at fault!

Gill, I'm just going to ring tomorrow to clarify everything is fine, then wait untill my tickets arrive, I don't mind an hours delay for another flight, but being told I have to go a day earlier is out of order!!

After ringing Virgins Indian call centre today, I was tempted to strangle the lot of them - has anyone ever rang them and got any sense out of them?

I quite agree, Kevin - it simply isn't convenient for some people to just change days. If we have to go on the later flight it doesn't really matter, except we've chosen nice seats "upstairs". What annoys me is that the two companies don't seem to know exactly what is going on.

Like you, I'll call tomorrow. No doubt we'll post with our results!

Hope they sort their act out!

I'm not travelling 'til December and as it's my first 'non-parent'/adult holiday, I want as little hassle as possible (planning your first holiday is stressful enough - which is why I booked a package through VH).

No :(

Previously I have had to ask to be transferred to their UK operation to get anything more than a little complex sorted.

Their service has gone downhill over the years - Thats why I have gone elsewhere and booked with TCD.

Hi

Is this only going to be in September. We are travelling in October and I am a little worried they will do the same to us. Is there any particular reason why they are changing your date to a day earlier?

I don't think they have changed my day now, just think it's either VH or VA playing silly buggers.

I've checked my booking online using "manage my booking" and everything is correct, even the flight time is still the same.

Virgin usually have 2 flights going out to orlando on each day, however if the 2 flights dont get enough seats filled they dont fly both flights and therefore cancel one. You will usually be transferred on to the next flight of the day - or if it is a small amount of people it is possible that they can transfer you onto another day.

The other thing is that Virgin Atlantic operate completely seperate to Virgin Holidays (although its the same brand it is a different company) so it takes a few days for the info to get accross...irritating i know.

Also it says on the virgin atlantic website that the flights that have been cancelled are -
Between London Gatwick and Orlando:

VS027/028 LGW-MCO-LGW - 7, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 27 Sept 2005

VS049/050 LGW-MCO-LGW - 4, 10, 17, 24 Sept 2005

Passengers will be rebooked onto the VS015/016 London Gatwick to Orlando services on the same day.

So it probably just means your on an earlier/later flight! Hope this helps!

Given some of the recent threads on here that is 'some' statement :)

We flew on the VS15/16 on 5th July and 26th July this year. Both flights were very "light" - especially the outward journey where our group of 6 were able to have a row of 4 seats each!! On the way back we got 2 seats each - they even announced the fact that there were spare seats, that you could "spread out" but please return to your own seat for landing. I have travelled with Virgin many times and have never seen the flights so empty.

Sounds very poor to me.

On my last Virgin trip, I was originally booked to go on the 11.30 flight, but this was cancelled and was put on the 12.30. Annoying that, but I would be hitting the roof if I was put in your position.

I am fed up with Indian call centres. I only found out Virgin had them last week when I tried to move my holiday back two weeks. "Joe" said, it would cost me an extra £550 to do so then the admin fees of £100 on top of that.

Utter rubbish. I emailed Virgin and was then told the actual price would be £330. (I am not paying that, thank you! I'll wait until the free child places are back on offer in January and then chage for less than £100!)

I would email them. They are pretty good in their replies.

When we wanted to change the hotel we had the same from the person on the phone that it was going to cost about £300 but when i e-mailed Virgin they only charged me £45 where's the logic in that, haven't had any experience with Virgin changing flights yet.
