I have a friend that just bought into DVC (150pt SSR). They went with the full price, and got the bonus 150 pts. THey have a December use year.

That extra 150 pts is for '05 use year right? They should be banking those by end of November, or using them?

I too just added on, got a bonus 130 pts, but they were '05 pts and we had to bank them or use them or LOSE them. Is it the same with the new contracts?

Oh, I should add, that my friend said MS told them NOT to bank those bonus points. That they don't need to.

Hmmmm...bonus points? We just bought at SSR in October, have a December use year and had our 2005 points good until end of November. I just used them for our May 2007 vacation since we were past the banking point. We got $10 off per point.

I"m not sure about your friend's case, but when we added on this summer our guide told us that they have suspended the banking rules for new contracts. Even though we were getting points double points (this year's and last year's) just before our UY was up, we were able to bank last year's points without a problem.

OOPS, upon further review, the post is reversed...our points for the May 2007 vacation were use year 2006. There is another thread here that says the 2005 points are a computer glitch and are not really available... :badpc:

We had the same deal, 200 pt contract (Dec UY) with 200 free developer points (onetime points), that are good until Dec of 2007. We didn't bank anything and booked a cruise and a Christmas vacation well after 12/1/06. Yes, we paid full prices, but since we live about 2 hours from Disney we thought the free points were a better deal......

My friend paid full price and took the extra points instead. I told her to call back again and check about this and that I would come over and look at her account online with her to make sure. The way it was set up for us (we added on at the same time as they did..late Sep) was that the bonus pts were from the 05 year, and HAD to be banked right away. I have an Oct. UY though, hers is Dec. But I would still think she needs to get them banked...as they aren't going anytime soon.

Fsued? You used your pts though right? You booked something with them I mean? She isn't going to do that, so wanted to make sure she wasn't going to lose out on this. With our add on pts, we would lose them if they weren't used up.

Yes, I used my points (bought 10/06 & I have a Dec UY), but used 88 in Dec and the rest for our May 07 DCL vacation. Nothing banked or lost for not using the "Free" points in the 05 UY. The only thing I could lose would be moving any 06 UY points into 05, which I must (and will) use but 11/30/06. Just verify with MS, but this is how it should work. Hope this helps....

This sounds like what I did. That was the offer in late summer, before the $15 off for a referral.

When I booked my first trip, they had automatically banked the 05 points for me. It's still worth a call, but that's what happened with me.

Sounds like your friend may have gotten a set of Developer's Points as their "2005" allocation. Since DVC is only selling the new unopened units, they really can't give any '05 points for those buildings. But they could give away a set of Developer's Points. They've done that in the past when they were pre-selling unopened units.

If they are Developer's Points, their use likely falls under a different set of rules than the typical Use Year / Banking schedule. There is probably a set date by which the points must be used (and it is probably NOT 11/30/06) and they may not be eligible to get banked.

The paperwork should spell out all of the details.

I'm not sure that sacrificing a $15 per point discount for one additional set of points was the smartest thing to do.

Got that right:

Renting 150 pts: approx $1500 (depending on what you can find for rental price but $10 per point seems like a pretty good number to use)

$15 per point extra on those $150 points: $2250

And the gap gets wider the more points we're talking about.

But, as with all things DVC, you do what's right for you. Considering they're not planning on going soon, I'm not sure what the value of those "bonus" points are, but...I'm sure they must've had a reason for wanting them.

They bought in Sept and it was only $10 off....which is pretty much the same. They were upset when they saw the price go down a couple weeks later.
