This is the quote we got from Dreams Unlimited... We are 3 adults and 4 children...... :earseek: :earseek:

We are DVC owners , I'm not sure if we'll use our points and then pay cash for some of the trip but if we had to pay cash for all of it...well.. there's no way I could afford it.

It's me, my husband, 17 year old dd, 14,9 and 5 year old (all daughters) and my mom ... total of 7 people..... Is this what is would realistically cost to go on a cruise????

Help!!!

Could someone explain how the staterooms work and what does it mean for 1st and 2nd passengers and then paying less for 3rd and 4th passengers... I haven't spoken to my guide at DVC only b/c she has recently left and I don't know the new person that took over.

Well the dates we were looking at were july of 2006 for a 7 day Eastern Caribbean Cruise...

thank you for any insight you could offer...

I just tried your info on the DCL site and got $16,607.91 if you have 2 Cat. 6 rooms. You can get it down to $14,607.91 by getting a Cat. 6 and a Cat. 10. You could try to shave some change off by maybe putting 5 people in a Cat. 4 and 2 in a Cat. 10. :confused3 What can one say? It's peak season, the older kids are old enough to be priced like adults, and you are forced to get 2 staterooms (maybe the Disney suite holds 7, but that would probably be outrageous and not likely available. If the balcony is not important, you could all stay in Cat. 10s and get down to the $12,000 range.

just to get on board. that is the lowest i got it. 2 cat 11, 7-night Caribbean-Western,leaving 7-29-06. not the eastern either but this 7 day was slightly cheaper for some reason.

Yikes, it's scary isn't it? I'd recommend trying allseastravel.com. they had the best rates for our upcoming Jan 2006 cruise. Not bashing dreams unlimited, but when I shopped around, theirs' was the highest price, it was identical to what Disney quoted me, but DU gave a small onboard credit based on your total cost.

The 1st and 2nd passengers pay full price, then there's a discounted price for the 3rd,4th passengers staying in the same cabin

The problem is that "price wise" you are 5 adults and 2 children. I would definitely consider a Cat 6 and a Cat 11 across the hall combo. Then you would have the balcony and 3 bathrooms between the two rooms.

For our family of 5, we booked a CAT 7 and CAT 11 directly across the hall from each other. Hoping it works out ok, as this is our first cruise!

kabuki, it should work out fine. Depending on the ages, be sure to request room keys for both rooms for everyone from guest services if that would make things easier for you.

I'm in the same boat - no pun intended! With 4 kids, and 3 adults, I wanted to do a balcony adjoining so I could be accessible to the kids whenever. I went with 8/19/06 - boy those rates do drop as summer goes by. Even so, the rate is up by $700 for a triple and up $900 for a quad - up $1600 from the price available last October. Don't hate me, but could I suggest booking as soon as rates are announced for Summer 2007? You really get the edge by booking ahead. Last year, I believe summer 2006 rates were released mid-September 2004.

I agree that All Seasons Travel seems to offering a lower rate than what you were quoted and if nothing else, you can access their quote immediately for comparing different dates and what you've been quoted.

Good Luck!

Hi :wave2: I see that we'll be on the same cruise next year! Have you been over to the Cruise Meets board? We have a thread going, and we are a great group of people, if I do say so myself :teeth: Here's a link directly to our thread. It was started last fall so you might just want to jump in at the end and say Hello :)

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=653957

P.S. If you already have been to the thread, please forgive my terrible memory :(

It could be, sadly. :sad2:

When we booked our July 8th, 2006 sailing last october 2004, we have our rate locked in for $16672.00. Now, however, the rate is $23513.43. So in that time it's gone up just under $7k.

This is for 7 adults, 3 kids, 1 child under 3 in two cat 6 rooms and two cat 8 rooms all next to each other.

I agree about the time to go. Fall is best. We are a group of 11 adults. The total is approximately $11,500. We have two Cat.6 side by side and two category 11 across from us.

I just wanted to mention that you don't need to contact your guide about using your points. You need to talk to Member Services. Your guide can not make reservations for you. Your guide is really just a salesperson....although I am aware some will go above and beyond that :) MS are the ones to talk to about exact point amounts and ressies.

Good Luck! I hope you're able to find a great deal somewhere. :wizard:

We booked at cat. 6 and a cat. 11 across the hall for myself and DDs 14 and 12 on our 04 Western and the price was only 75 dollars more than cramming us all in a 6. Highly reccomended......try one stateroom with 3 women :rotfl2: We'd never be on time for dinner.

IMHO.......if the price is too much go "off peak"....we sailed the wekk after Thanksgiving in 02 and 03 and the price for the 4 of us was around 5000.00. We sailed Thanksgiving (04) and will be 05 and it's almost 8000.00 for the same staterooms just 1 week earlier.....but with school we have no choice!!

:earseek: Yikes!
Just a thought here. We are also DVC members and we rented out our points to pay for our 7-day Eastern cruise. We saved 200 points and avoided the restrictions and the extra charge ($75?) that you incur using points to book a cruise. When you book using points, you can only do so 11 months out.
By paying with cash, we booked 18 months out (early booking savings) and we were able to get connecting cat 10 SPR rooms. The cancellation policy is much better using cash. Also, we cruise a value week in November--even though it means taking the kids out of school. We'll do this until they are older.
To rent, we used the "rent/trade" board and have had good experiences. It is extra work, but, with advance planning, it's been well worth it!
Good luck to you, whatever you decide to do.

We are traveling with a group of 8 adults and 3 children for $11,216.
Two Cat. 7s & two Cat. 10s. We booked on board for the cat 7s, then added the cat 10s through DU. This included transfers but not insurance for a November 26th Eastern. High season is a killer!

$17821.91!? OMG! That's almost as expensive as a wedding! I read recently that the average wedding now costs $23K. I don't believe it, but that's what it said.

You could buy a lot of DVC points for $18K...
