Can they really do this?

Just tell them you've got your own fantastic Disney trip planned for the end of the summer.

Enjoy!!!

I read the followup post and it makes sense for the OP to skip the party. It sounds like they would skip the party even if it was local. They have other plans at the same time and aren't close to the kid. I still think it's nice the parents invited everyone rather then make some kids feel unwanted. You really don't have to include a reason when you RSVP.

I'm not really sure why you'd call the Beach Club.:confused3 Are you going to be a registered guest at the same time? Are you thinking of having a birthday party there? Disney has a price to close the MK for a private party. I'm sure they have a price for a private party at SAB.

I would be a nosey parent and call the Beach Club and inquiry about the party details. I know storm-along-bay is for Beach and Yacht club guests ONLY and they give out wrist bands to people showing their keys. I know some hotels do this, but there is a part of me that isn't sure about a Disney/DVC doing this (annoy the guests?)

I love storm-along-bay by the way.

I hardly see a pool party (even though it is in Disney World, since the people live in Florida) being "way too over the top," but to each his own, I guess.
I agree once kids reach that dont kiss me in public age, places and types of b-day parties are limited. Chuckie Cheeses are out of the question. My friend had her daughters at 6 flags over a 90 mins from me, but she made travel arrangements for the children that were going. most car pooled. I can tell you that if I had to travel that far a gift from the dis-budget board closet is in order:lmao:

I hope that the birthday parents have arranged something with the Beach Club and they just don't show up expecting 20plus guests be allowed to use Storm a-long Bay. That would be awful if these families drove all that way and then could not enjoy the beach club.

I don't see anything wrong with having a kids B Day Party at the Beach Club, as a matter of fact i had my 7 year old daughters party there, and it was GREAT!!! We invited her friends, and we were suprised that we had 12 kids RSVP. We live about 70 minutes from Disney, so it was a good drive for the people that attended. If they thought it was too far to drive then they could politely say that they would not be able to attend. That wouldn't of hurt our feelings at all. No one is required to go to a B Day party if invited. A few of the people that attended brought their whole families with them and made a weekend of it. We had no problems with other family members coming at all. The more the merrier i always say!!!

Families have regular pool parties for their children every day. A "pool party" is not way too over the top - a pool party at the Beach Club Resort for a 10 year old is way too over the top. You can have a pool party at the local pool here for around $125.00, I don't think that will even come close to what this one will come to.

So just because it costs more to stage a pool party at Disney World than it does in Canada, that transforms the party from acceptable to "way too over the top"? That line of reasoning does not make sense.

Some of us are curious, nosey? Do you remember what Disney charged? Did you have to book a minimum number of rooms? Was there a minimum food order or was there a birthday package that included everything.

I understand the Nick Hotel also does birthday packages.

This is not directed to the OP but to some of the other posters. Parents have set up a nice birthday party. They decided to invite the entire class. Avoids trying to decide which classmate are worth of being invited, which friends are "close enough". Parents who have other plans, or don't want to spend the time or gas can simply RSVP no. It sounds like the OP isn't really close to any of the other parents but I'd expect parents that would normally attend would be close to other parents and could car pool

If I lived that close and had a child invited to this party I would jump at the chance. The Beach Club is such a great place. I would drop the child off and if the adults are not invited to stay i would check out the hotel and maybe get something to eat. It would be wonderful for a party.

I guess 90 minutes is a bit of a drive but I guess it also depends on how much you like driving. We live in NJ and drive 2 days to go to WDW. I used to commute to NYC every day and that generally took over 90 minutes each way every day. If I lived 90 minutes away Ifrom WDW I would be there every weekend. My dad lives in Queens about 50 miles away from us and between NJ and NY traffic sometimes it takes more then two hours to get there.

Linda

I agree, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

I do think 90 minutes is far to drive for a birthday party, but if DS knew he was invited to a birthday party at the BC and he didn't get to go he'd be a little upset, I'm sure. Plus I'd want to go too. :rolleyes1

Wow just seen this. We rented a local pool at a hotel for DS's birthday a couple years ago and it costs me with cake, pizza and pool rental around $400.00. Wish we had a pool around here that only costs $125.00, I'd jump on that.

subscribing -- just curious about the details of a BC pool party. Sounds like fun, but I completely see why OP has decided not to attend.

I agree that it's over the top....but wanted to comment because we're making our first trip to Disney in Sept and we're going over Labor day weekend too!!!

If you've got enough cash to spend I think Disney will let anybody rent out anything.

It's too bad you can't go, but it sounds like you have plenty planned already, and your kid isn't friends with the birthday kid anyway.

As for it being too much, as long as they can afford to do it, no reason why they shouldn't. If it's too far away for guests to travel, maybe they should have taken that into consideration, but some will do the traveling.

When we did the pool party for my daughter, i had 2 rooms for 2 nights. One room for us, and an extra room for anyone that wanted to stay over. We spoke to the Hotel Manager before we booked it and explained to him what we were looking to do, since everyone would need a wristband to go in the pool. He was very nice and let the staff know what was going on and as my guests arrived they stopped at the front desk and were given their wristbands.

We had the cake and ice cream at Beaches and Cream. We didnt have to buy any food or anything, but we ordered 2 kitchen sinks for the kids and they loved them. They also ate every last drop of it too...LOL We did ahve to wait a little bit for the available tables, but that was no big deal because all the kids were in the pool having fun.

Everyone that came was so happy that they did come and all of the children had a great time. Again i was surprised at the turnout, because of the travel time, but it was a great party and people didn't mind. The next day we hit the Magic Kingdom with one of the familes that stayed the night and had a blast.

Wow!

That's about all I'm going to say because I know I'd end up getting flamed for saying what is really going through my head.

To answer your question about if it can be done, sounds like it can...if you've got the money.

:sad2:
Way too over the top for a 10 year olds birthday party.

ITA. A 90-minute drive? For a kids' birthday party? If a good friend of my DD12 or DS9 invited one of them to a party that far away, find your own transportation - I don't care how fabulous and fun - I'd be irritated by the expectation.

Just compare - a pool party at a local pool (or a pool at your home)that is a 10 minute drive away to a pool party at the Beach Club Resort with a 90 minute drive. It's not rocket science, it's like comparing tap water to Dom Perignon don't you think?:confused3

How does money play into this? Money has nothing to do with it. Asking the right people the right questions, is what got the party done. Would it be any better if it was done at the Pop Century pool? No not at all, it is the same thing.

What expectation is their? Are you expected to go to a party just because you got an invitation? No, not at all, so their is no expectation to go. If you don't want to go then you don't go, no big deal.

I'll have a party at the beach club again when my son gets older, and i have no expectations for anyone to come. For those that choose to come will have a great time and will be happy. We will have a great time with or without everyone.

Now you're not making any sense. There are two issues - distance and MONEY!!!

I was thinking the same thing in response to that comment! Its not like you said you had to pay an extravagant amount per child or pay a fee to hold the party. Your explaantaion of the party details sounded much more reasonable than what I had imagined in my head. Oh and I am very jealous about the kitchen sink. I've always wanted to get it, but everytime I go the people with me wimp out and we order something else:sad1:
