I realized I have a problem. I hate clutter, but for some reason I hoard bath & beauty products.I often buy shampoo or conditioner, body washes lotions etc and once I try them and don't like it, I hate to toss em. When my sister lived near me she used to scoop em all up and use em, but they are too heavy to be worth mailing. So I have a ton of things with only 1 use gone. Can the3y go to a woman's shelter or the like? They are not brand new. There are a lot of Bath & Body works lotions and such. I contemplated bringing them to work to give away, but I am a bit embarrassed.

I wouldn't take them into work without asking around to see if anyone wanted them. For myself, I would not want someone's partially-used bath products, even if they were only used once. But perhaps someone at work thinks otherwise. Shelters don't want opened/used products either.

Bath & Body Works will exchange products for something that you like if you've been given something that doesn't suit your taste. They will do this even if the bottle has been opened. You might want to try one of their stores before you toss the stuff.

It just feels so wasteful to toss it. I actually had a yard sale once where I had a big sign, all these products have been used at least once and they flew off the shelf.I was surprised by that. But I hate yardsales, too much time and prep work.

You can Freecycle them -- if you aren't familiar, Freecycle is a way to give away your unwanted but still usable stuff -- go to freecycle.org and find a group in your area. Then you make a post about the items you're giving away, people will respond saying they want your item, you let someone know they can have it, provide directions to your house (only to that person/persons), and they pick it up. I actually have some hair products in the same condition as yours that I'm going to put on Freecycle today! They'll be gone in minutes, I'm sure.

If you have a soup kitchen near by often you can leave them there. I help out at my local church food pantry that does a Sunday dinner and gives out food and toiletries and people do donate new as well as used toiletries.

The women's shelter in my area will take opened bath products, so it doesn't hurt to ask.

Yes, please call a shelter first. Only if they and the meals service refuse, try Freecycle.

Or leave everything in the lobby of my apartment building. Bunch of scavengers. My neighbors will take 'em :rotfl:

I would also call the shelter, they might but if not, they would probably go quickly on freecycle or craiglist.

I agree with above about shelters/freecycle but will add that people in my office often put lotions in our restrooms for anyone to use...of course everyone knows it has been used and is also community property. I am like you and HATE to throw good stuff away, nice of you to think of others before you do this:)

As if half the stuff at BBW and Victoria's Secret wasn't purchased after being used at least once, lol. I watch people in there all the time spraying the non tester bottles, using lotion out of the regular bottles, etc. If I am buying a gift I ask if they have any in the back, the employees know why and are happy to help if they can.
At my work they would all quickly be scooped up if left ont he big table in the break room with a sign that said. Please feel free to take and enjoy, many have been used once, but I don't like them!:)

most shelters will take em so will some nursing homes they will ask patients familys if they can be used on patient they smell so much nicer than the ones they use

another idea is to package them up inziplock bags and give to any homeless u see in area they ill appricate it I do this with travel sizes my husband brings home and free samples i pick up places I also then will use my coupons for no parashables if I get a item cheap or free I make up bags to share..

don't throw em out!

I gave my "rejects" to Nursing home aides. Granted I worked there and with these girls and I used our own money buying stuff to make Ladies and guys feel/smell nice.

:) You could donate them for a church mission trip, too

You could also put an ad on the free section of Craigslist.

I was in Goodwill today and noticed that they had a whole shelf of used lotions.

People sell them on Facebook groups all the time around here. I thought it was a little strange to sell used/open items, but they seem to go quick. I'd check with a shelter or food bank first, but I know what you mean. It feels wasteful to buy something and then not like it. My DD is now getting to the age when she just steals it all from me.

There is a group called "Teen Challenge" they help men and women over come drug and alcohol addiction. I know that place in particular accepts donations because we took donations to give to them. They have locations across the United States. Also High Schools maybe another option, there are teen girls who would like to have those items but their family would be unable to purchase them.:thumbsup2

UPDATE! TY to the pref poster who suggested a nursing home! I work in a hospital but work with some who work in nursing homes as well.
Found someone to take all of them! One of the Nurse's Aides where I work also works at a nursing home. She is one of the most kind, caring people I know. She works at the kind of nursing home you never want to be in.These are the people with nothing and no visitors. I called her yesterday she told me she would be happy to take them , she said all they get there to wash people up in the showers is cheap hand soap. That is also the shampoo and body wash. She said it drys out their skin and hair. Their hair gets icky without conditioner. She said a lot of employees coupon for soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant etc I drove it over there last night when she was getting in from her shift, dropped off the whole box.She also said a lot of her friends and family take the shampoos and conditioners that people bring back from hotels. It makes me so angry that anyone would treat people this way. But it also makes me feel better that there are enough employees there that care.
