Hi!

This is new to us and wondering if anyone can answer our question.

We are looking to rent a unit at either the Boardwalk, Wilderness, Beach Club, or OKW. Can the 5 of us 2 adults and 3 kids (9,12,14) fit in this type of unit.

Also, can someone tell me what the average price per point should cost?

I appreciate all replies. Thank you.

I was looking into a villa for our party of five (3 adults, a 10 year old and a 12 year old), and I was told that if we all wanted to be in one villa, we would need a two bedroom villa. The studios have a queen size bed, and a queen size pull out couch. The one bed rooms have a queen size bed in the bedroom, and a pull out couch in the living room.

The occupancy limits in a studio are 4 plus one child under 3 as well as the one bedroom units. The two bedroom units will hold up to 8 people. There are a FEW studio plus units at BWV which will hold 5, but the 5th person has to be SMALL. The day bed is only 4 ft long in the studio plus. The studio plus units aren't guaranteed, so they may be an option, but again, they are VERY few in number. The going cost per point is $10.

The room limit is 4 with a child under 3. That being said your family even if you thought of trying to squeeze would be crowded in a studio. Only 1 queen bed and 1 queen pull out. I would suggest not to ask this question on the DVC board (if you haven't already) because the thread will be locked. DVCers are very sensitive to this issue....putting more people then the room holds.

I believe regular rooms at the boardwalk Inn and the Yacht club/beach club hold 5. At the WL you'd need a Deluxe room, but I think they are pretty expensive.

There is an FAQ on the DVC rent/trade board, but the other posters are correct that 5 will not fit in a studio or 1 bedroom. Well, they will fit better in a 1 bedroom, but you'll exceed the occupancy limit and there are only beds for 4. They don't have roll away beds available.

If you can swing a 2 bedroom, go for it! Old Key West would have the lowest point cost & the biggest rooms.

Here is a link to the 2 DVC boards. I'd suggest that you don't post anything in the DVC discussion area until you've read several days worth of posts. It's kind of a specialialized board, as you'll see! Try doing searches very early in the morning or late at night.

And rightfully so--it's their dues that pay for the maintainence and upkeep, and adding extra people causes more wear and tear.

You know what's interesting about this whole 5 in a studio/1 bedroom unit is, is that when we were considering buying into DVC in April, our guide told us we could put 5 in a room. I questioned him about that an he said that they really don't mind, just bring a sleeping bag or air mattress if we wanted. (There are 5 of us in our family, well, technically 6, but the oldest is leaving in a couple of months.)
Anyway, I thought that was interesting that he actually told us that. Oh, and he was referring to the studios and 1 bedrooms.
So, who really knows.......

The DVC guide was trying to sell a timeshare. Do you really want to believe everything s/he said?

The occupancy limits on DVC units are clear and appropriate. 1 BR suites have a king bed and a sleeper couch, period. There are plenty of good alternatives to exceeding the occupancy limits:
-- get a 2BR DVC suite
-- most rooms at Deluxe resorts will sleep 5 (at AKL and WL you need to get a "deluxe" room)
-- Fort Wilderness cabins sleep 6
-- get two adjoining rooms at All-Stars (two bathrooms!)
-- Doubletree suites near Downtown Disney sleep 6
-- suite-type units are available at some nearby off-site resorts of reasonable quality, such as Caribe Royale, Vistana Resort, and Holiday Inn Family Suites.

I knew what the occupancy limits where, which is why I questioned it. Yes I understand somebody was trying to make a sale, BUT if he told me we could put 5 in the room when that was our main problem with having to buy so many extra points, I would have been furious to not have been allowed. That would be a sale under false prestenses.
Of course I'm NOT stupid enough to have taken his word for it, I would have made him put that in writing before I even considered buying. If he said I didn't need it in writing, that it would just be "fine". I wouldn't buy! Plain and simple. I am not a stupid person!
For the record, we didn't buy.......at least not yet.......LOL

And by the way, I wasn't trying to exceed occupancy limits, I know what all my alternatives are. I was just repeating what we were told!

Since no one else has done it....Welcome to the Dis!

Be sure and check prices through WDW on any of the DVC properties. Our 2 br villa at OKW cost less to reserve through CRO than if we had rented points. Not only that, but we got the much more liberal payment, refund and cancellation policies as well as daily maid service! Renting points isn't always the cheapest option.

The DVC guide was trying to sell a timeshare. Do you really want to believe everything s/he said?

Would you really want to buy from someone who would blatantly lie?

While it is a timeshare (no matter what cute little name they want to give it), I'd hope Disney would be above the shady sales techniques that seem to run rampant among timeshare sales people. While the room limit is 4 people, my guess is the DVC owners care a whole lot more how many people are in a room than the people who actually own the company.

Regardless, since the op is obviously new to these boards and never gave the slightest indication that they were trying to put more bodies in a room than they are allowed, couldn't we wait until they did before we started the sermonizing? I have no sympathy for posters who are obviously trying to skirt the rules or cheat, but it's gotten to the point where no one can ask even the most innocent of questions on these boards without getting ripped apart.

We were a family of 6 when we purchased years ago...4 kids under 5....

The occupancy limits on DVC units are clear and appropriate.

we never even looked at the OFFICIAL occupancy limit...we believed what the salesman said....the baby at the time was sleeping with us and the other 3 slept together in on the pull out...

A couple of trips later we figured out on our own that we needed more space so we book a 2 bdrm now....but because of our original experience of CRO putting all 6 of us in a Studio plus we never considered it was against the policy to put 6 in a 1 bdrm...But I am very aware of it now since it has been pointed out many many times on the DIS....I wasn't trying to do anything underhanded when I did it, I was just going on the knowlege I had at the time..

When BWV first opened we booked a studio with 5, we didn't have a child under 3 (we were told it was fine and would be guaranteed a daybed) this was trhu CRO. We checked in with the same 5 people, and when we got to our room guess what no daybed. Called front desk and of course I was told that we shouldn't have that room, needless to say they brought a rollaway.

Let me say it was very tight, but how the heck was I supposed to know??? Now I know not to trust CRO!! I can't tell you how many times they have tried to put me in a room that wasn't meant for us.

Welcome to the DIS....You will get lot's of great info here don't let anyone scare you away;)

A few things to remember if you decide you want to rent points:

1. If you plan to go at a busy time - Christmas, Easter, Spring Break, Fourth of July, etc., you need to rent your points way ahead of time. These times get booked by DVC members early ( they can reserve their units 11 months ahead of time at their home resort, and 7 months ahead at another DVC resort).

2. Early Dec is very popular with DVC members because the points are low then. Remember the 11/7 month rule.

3. Since DVC members' points go into a special account if they cancel in less than 30 days, attempt to get your points before this time or pay it all up front even before you get a copy of the reservation.

4. Some DVC members will take a credit card through Paypal or some other plan, but many will want cash. You may be required to pay a portion - 1/2 or more - up front and the remainder 30 days out.

5. Depending upon the member, you may or may not be able to cancel the reservation or get a refund. It may depend upon when you decide to do so. If you cancel before 30 days out, you probably can get most of your money back (unless they borrowed points from the next year and now they have to use them in this year).

Personally, I'll never rent out my points. I love going too much. But others do.

DVCers are very sensitive to this issue....putting more people then the room holds.

Not all of us. I say some people are too worried about what others are doing. If it means the difference between being able to take your family on vacation or not, I say do what you need to do.

this is not to condem zurgswife, who was just making a suggestion.

I told myself a long time ago that I would never get involved in a thread like this, but I get very annoyed when I see that some people think that we DVCers are too sensitive about policies. We bought into DVC when it first opened in 1991. We were told the rules, etc and never thought anything else about it. We bought enough point to stay in a 2 bedroom, even though we only have 2 children, just in case we wanted to bring another person along. Friends of our, with 3 children, looked into it and were told that they needed 2 bedrooms so they decided not to buy. Unfortunately, Disney policies vary greatly from CM to CM. When you book a room through CRO this is totally different. Many times people are upgraded, etc and this is done on a per reservation basis. The problem with DVC is that there are members and all members should be treated the same. I personally have no problem with 5 in a studio as long as ALL members are given the same option. This is and has never been the case. What I would love to see is an official written policy from Disney regarding this issue. As for the original poster I truly understand your problem. A Disney vacation is very expensive for some people and it makes absolute sense to try and get as much value as one can. If you were told by the CMS that you can put more people in a room then I guess it's OK. I just wanted to add my opinion and explain why it is such a "hot" topic.

Good Luck and Have a Wonderful Vacation!!

Personally, I wouldn't want to fit 5 in a studio, even if it was within the rules. We were a little crowded for our stay in December with just 3 of us (myself, DD 17 and DS 16). Would do it again with 3, but with more I would want a 2 bedroom.

What I don't understand is why so many people seem to be going over the edge about putting more people in a room than you're supposed to when the OP never said that's what they intended to do! All they asked was would they fit. The answer is no.

This is one reason why we reserved our OKW villa through CRO. I'm not staying at a DVC resort! I'm staying at a WDW Home Away From Home Resort!;) I figure this way, the only rules and regulations I have to follow are the ones set by WDW Resorts and CRO.
