Can teenagers choose food from a kid's menu?

My DD is 14 and prefers the quantity and range of food available from the children's menu at TS restaurants.

Provided it is not a buffet meal, would the servers mind if she ordered from the Under 9's whilst the other three people choose from the more expensive adult menu?

Does anyone have experience of this?

Thanks

PS We won't be on the DDP and will be paying OOP.

Most of the time, there won't be any issue with this (again, provided it is not a buffet-type meals, as you said). In some cases, you'll simply be charged an adult price for the child meal (generally with a larger portion provided, obstensibly to justify the higher price, though you're not actually paying by the ounce for the food. :rotfl: )

You are probably going to have to play it by ear. In December my 11yo was offered the choice of the child or adult menu at most places. Mama Melrose and Big River Grille were the exceptions IIRC. The waitress at the Brown Derby gave her both menus and told us that even older kids don't enjoy the adult fare.

Most of the time my dd's order soups, salads and/or split an appetizer at a table serve restaurant. So if a kids menu isn't available for her that is an option. Even my 9 and 11 yo's get tired of nuggets, fries and mac and cheese before the end of the week!

It seems to me that the kids offereings are getting more "kid oriented" with fewer options. I noticed very little fish, chicken or steak on the kids menus this trip, not as much pizza or burgers and more pb&j, mac & cheese and hot dogs on the kids menu. DH thought it was probably to deter adults from ordering a childs meal, maybe?

Interesting note: my ten year old was charged "adult" rates at all buffets that we had made reservations. I can see that his rate is adult for the park, but he definitely doesn't eat enough for an 'adult' at a buffet (picky eater and all that). Yet, because we made the reservations through Disney, they picked up on his rate for the park and this became what we paid for his buffet meals!

My younger DS, now 14, has always been able to order from the kid's menu when there was nothing he liked or wanted, on the adults menu. Usually it is at dinner time since most restaurants offer hamburgers and other kid-friendly items on their lunch menus. :)

This depends. We recently traveled with friends who have a 13yr daughter that is very picky on what she eats. We were not on the Dining Plan. I have the DDE card and used that where ever possible. We had no issues with her being albe to order off of either menu when we were at the regular TS places. Of course at the buffets she paid adult prices.

Yes. Ten year olds are considered adults at Disney. That is why we chose to go to "order from the menu" type places and not buffets because of our 10 y.o. DD. We just ordered one adult meal and shared.

Thank you all so much for your answers. :sunny: We are on the dining plan, so it would be to Disneys benifit to let them IMO. I will probably try to stick to buffet style meals anyway, but wanted to double check just in case I can't get resies. I really don't mind paying adult prices (Not that the dining plan gives a choice), because they are as big as an adult and heck, it's vacation anyway...lol.

thanks again,
