Can SW Credit be transferred to someone else?

If I cancel a flight on Southwest they give me a full credit to be used within 12 months. Can that credit be used by someone other than the original person the ticket was issued to?

Here is the issue. We are going to WDW in Sept. a few weeks after school starts and planning on taking 1 or 2 friends kids with us. The kids parents have no trouble letting them go and really want them to have this opportunity. They've never been to WDW or anywhere else for that matter. They are concerned that once school starts in mid August unexpected problems with school work schedules and teachers could come up forcing them to cancel at the last minute.

If I book air now and then have to cancel their flights can I use the credit for me or anyone else later or are they the only ones who can use that credit?

confirmation number

and

the name it was booked under ( eg credit card name )

Thats great to hear! That allows me to not worry so much about losing the airfare.

Being under 45 days if they cancel I will still lose some with Disney though. I'd have to change the resort reservation from 3 or 4 people down to 2. Since I would not be cancelling the entire reservation I assume I'd only be out the $50 change fee with Disney? Just trying to decide what my full risk is to go ahead and book the kids with the possibility they may cancel.

I think if I were you, I'd be frank with those parents and explain that you want "Jonny" to come but that changes will cost you out of pocket, so perhaps they can be rather "firm" in their decision:confused3

SW lets you use the finds for a year from Date of Purchase, not date of trip! Then you only need confirmation number, full name that it was under. Also, if the year goes up they will allow you to deduct $50 from those funds to extend another 6 mos! ;) You really can't go wrong with sw IMHO.
OR just sell it to anyone or give it away! God Luck! :wizard:

On the SW site there is now a message that credits are not transferrable, starting in January.

So, I'm guessing there will be a lot of us trying to get rid of our existing SW credits that we won't be able to use or transfer. Where can we do this?

I saw that message also. Do you know if the January date is the date you can no longer book using someone else's funds or the date you can no longer travel using someone else's funds? I hope that makes sense.

It's the date that future funds can only be used by the person the tickets were booked for.
