I've been sitting here online, reading stuff on Amazon, Google and in Goggle Books. I haven't downloaded anything in several days. When I have, they've been eBooks form reputable companies, like Amazon. And I always run the AVG antivirus scanner anyway.

But, I'm sitting here writing paper notes, with the computer running, the Internet up, but I'm not actively doing anything on it.

I look up at the computer screen after I hear the hard drive whirring, and I see that my AVG antivirus has alerted me that it's found a Trojan horse.

This is the FOURTH one it has found in weeks and each time it happened the same way. I am on a window of what should be a safe site, and the computer is idle for a while, then I get a Trojan alert. :badpc: A few days ago, I had even downloaded and run Malwarebytes anti-malware program three times and I thought it had caught everything.

How can a Trojan show up when I'm not even doing anything on the computer? Can someone now have my IP address, and just transmit a Trojan virus to me? I have the basic Windows Firewall running. Do I need something stronger? :confused3 :(

Now I have to spend my New Year's doing a clean install, which I was hoping to avoid. Happy frickin' new years to me. :badpc:

But, if someone can just send me a Trojan, how is this going to make a difference?

From my BTDT experience.... What happened to me was that the trojan virus got into my system and apparently lived there hiding and multiplying and then would decide to make an appearance, each time causing more issues. And AVG would only find it when it would appear. It said it was fixing it, but this thing hid in so many files, it wound up being in Snagit, Office, memory, registry, etc. So, it kept getting activated over and over and over. :( I finally wound up needing to have the O/S reloaded and all my software reloaded.

I *think* mine originally came from one of the games I played on FB, so I refuse to play any more games/applications on FB now.

Yes, that's what a "clean install" is, which I was hoping to avoid. Someone here did warn me, that a clean install would be quicker than all this other stuff I've been doing to try to get rid of it. :(

We just did a clean install on our computer and it's made a world of difference. Our Trojan got into everything and left over 1,000 virus fragments. It was a mess!
