Hello, we have a trip coming up soon..,the end of July into August. We are booked at the port Orleans. Room cost $2187.00. When I look at the David's DVC rental, it seems we could get an akl savannah view studio for $2212.

It will 2 adults, 2 teens and a 4 year old.

Seems like it would be a no brainer to switch to akl if we even could at this point, but I'm sure I'm missing something. The David's site looks like there is a studio available, but is it as simple as that?

Also waiting for a disney Visa card to be delivered to see if we could still get the discount at the poly....think they have just a few rooms at the discount?

It is that simple. Renting dvc gets you into a deluxe property at the price of a mod. Check out the rent/trade board. With your last minute reservation you could probably do even better than David's.

The member makes the reservation in your name. David is just the middle man. You pay a premium for that though. Lots of experienced dis renters that could help you out. Check back and let us know how you make out. I'd pick dvc over a mod in a heartbeat.

The only problem I see at this point is that you technically aren't allowed to rent a Studio w/ 5 people. You'd need a 1 br, which is a considerable jump....Some of the other studio villas, will accomodate 5 though. Maybe check into those...

But I might add....I actually love the Mods....If it weren't for being a DVC owner, we'd most likely be calling CSR or POR our home away from home.... :confused3 Just sayin.

AKV studios have a room capacity of 4. They have one queen bed and one pull-out full-size sofa sleeper. Other than that, you usually need to pay more up front and it is very difficult to change the reservation. You are more locked in.

I think the GF and Poly studios accommodate 5.

yeah, i don't think you can book an AKV studio for 5. you would need a 1BR to sleep 5.

i would be very surprised if AKV had a 5-7 night stay available at this point. one month out is very, very last minute in DVC terms - SSR might still have something available but AKV would probably be tougher on short notice. (for a short stay, anything is possible but you never know.)

Wow you guys are awesome...thanks for the quick response.

I thought the studio was bigger than por room...bummer! The one bedroom doubles the price. Will check out rent trade board..thanks.

Will cross my fingers that we can get a discounted rate at poly with the Visa if the DVC doesn't work out.

Wilderness Lodge and boardwalk villa studios now hold five. Boardwalk may not be guaranteed because the Reno isn't finished. I didn't notice that your child was over three.

So to recap: choices for five are wilderness lodge, Polynesian, grand Floridian and some boardwalk villas.

Also, if you were looking around the David's site you may already know this, but be aware of the differences between a normal room and DVC points stays. You won't get daily mousekeeping, won't get coffee/soap refilled as needed, etc. To is it was very minor and well worth the price savings, but to some it may make a difference.

I think you are going to find a lack of availability with only a few weeks before the trip. Just because they show prices doesn't mean there are available rooms.

Biggest drawback (as a many-time renter) is that when going through David's service, there are no cancellations or even rescheduling. Your options are almost non-existent.

I don't think there's anything wrong with trying. I was trying to put it out there that availability unlikely at this point. The savings are nice if there is availability. You basically get a Deluxe Studio at Moderate price. If they have no availability, they refund the deposit.
