Sad but true--have never made it to Wishes but really hope to see it this next trip. I get that it is a fireworks show with some castle effects. But some people are so enchanted by this--more than I would expect given that it's (just?) a fireworks show with some castle effects. What am I not understanding?

There is also music that goes along with the fireworks and effects and it basically tells a story- of sorts.

If you like fireworks, you'll love Wishes. The fireworks are amazing, set to music, with special effects lighting of the castle. Beautiful way to end the evening at MK. A "don't miss" for us! :tinker:

Some quick info on the current fireworks show at MK:
The Show

* Running time: Approximately 12 minutes
* Fireworks firing cues: 557
* Individual pieces of pyrotechnics: 683
* Presented most nights, "Wishes" is several times larger than "Fantasy in the Sky," the previous fireworks show at Magic Kingdom, and roughly five minutes longer.

The Story "Wishes" tells a richly emotional tale about making a wish come true, using classic Disney songs and character voices accompanied by meticulously choreographed fireworks.

The Cast "Wishes" features the voices of:

* Jiminy Cricket , the Blue Fairy and Pinocchio (from 1940's "Pinocchio")
* Snow White and the wicked Queen (from 1937's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs")
* Cinderella (from 1950's "Cinderella")
* Peter Pan (from 1953's "Peter Pan")
* Ariel (from 1989's "The Little Mermaid")
* Aladdin and Genie (from 1992's "Aladdin")

Tinker Bell (also from "Peter Pan"), flies from atop Cinderella Castle during a key moment in the show.

The Crew

* Creator/show director: Steven Davison
* Davison, creative director with Walt Disney Creative Entertainment, also developed the "Believe. . .There's Magic in the Stars" fireworks spectacular at Disneyland.

* Fireworks designer: Eric Tucker An award-winning pyrotechnics designer whose credits span the globe, Tucker previously designed the fireworks for "IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth" at Epcot.

* Music director: Steve Skorija As music director for Walt Disney Entertainment, Skorija oversees music production for live entertainment and special events at Walt Disney World Resort.

* Composer/arranger: Gregory Smith Smith previously worked on such Walt Disney World productions as "IllumiNations 25" and "Splashtacular" at Epcot, and the "Mickey Mania" parade at Magic Kingdom.

The Music In addition to Gregory Smith's original theme, which is based on the children's nursery rhyme "Starlight, Star Bright," the score for "Wishes" contains portions of 15 songs from 10 classic Disney animated features:

* "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937)
* "Pinocchio" (1940)
* "Fantasia" (1940)
* "Cinderella" (1950)
* "Peter Pan" (1953)
* "Sleeping Beauty" (1959)
* "The Little Mermaid" (1989)
* "Beauty and the Beast" (1991)
* "Aladdin" (1992)
* "Hercules" (1997)

The Fireworks "Wishes" features several new locations for launching fireworks that create brilliant bursts of light around Cinderella Castle, plus pyrotechnic effects never seen before in a Disney theme park, including several developed especially for the show:

The show's "wishing star" crests approximately 100 feet above the castle's bright spires. The Blue Fairy is represented with a spectacular star-shaped shell that "paints" each wish high in the sky with enchanted starlight.

The Guests "Wishes" was created in honor of the launch of Magical Gatherings, a celebration of the magic that occurs when friends and extended family reconnect at Walt Disney World Resort. The show is designed to bring guests together at night for a heart-tugging spectacle that will create lasting memories for everyone.

Hello MedCruise -

Wishes is fireworks which coincide with fabulous music. The show is about believing in your Wishes.

Let me bore you with my little story.

The year Wishes began and shortly before my December "pilgrimage" to WDW, my best friend was diagnosed with multiple myeloma - stage 4. Of course I was set to cancel my trip - if Joan was going to live only a few months...I was not going to spend 1 week of that time away. She insisted I go so off I went.

The first night at WDW, at the head of Main Street, I watched Wishes for the first time. With tears streaming down, my wish was to bring Joan to WDW for Christmas the following year.

One year later, on the anniversary of my first "Wish", I stood in the same spot with my friend Joan in REMISSION.....surrounded by friends from here.

For many of us Wishes represents the unexplained magic of WDW --- if you just believe in your Wish.

".......remember we must all believe in our Wishes - for they are the magic in the World. Now lets all put our hearts together and make our Wish come true"

Enjoy Wishes for Joan and me.

Cathy

You're probably not going to get a better description than this. :thumbsup2

Mouseaholic!!! - you brought tears to my eyes with your story. :hug:

Wishes is why I go back to WDW - I just love the story, the music, and the fireworks!

Here's a shot I took last week (it's not the best, but it does bring back memories!).

Joan lost her battle about 18 months ago and now I "Wish" for a collegue's wife. Funny thing......EVERY time I have Wished for Joyce (renal cell -stage 4 and doing VERY well) she feels better, or a long lost friend calls...or something special happens.

You can NEVER convince me there no magic at WDW.

I am fortunate to visit WDW often and occassionally I see someone who has become very emotional watching Wishes. I understand those evenings of desperation when I wished when Joan was so ill......and always hope they too find the magic.

I will always celebrate the extra 2 years I had with my friend Joan....but Wishes does tug at my heart when I see it.

We leave for WDW in 9 days....and I'll be wishing again.

I hope everyone can share the magic I found at Wishes.

Cathy

Wishes is just more than the fireworks and the music. There is something about being there with your family and just thinking about wishing the best things for all your loved ones. I think that the show is the right combination in the right place that really pulls at your heart.

This picture was right after wishes but the memories of watching Wishes with my kids will live with me all my life. Certain things just remind you why its great to be alive and to have a loving family.

Cathy, your story alongside Wishes has touched me! I'm sat here reading with tears in my eyes. Such a shame your friend lost her battle, but I'm sure she battled well for the two years which she could. And I'm so glad that your wish came true and you got to see the show with her, how wonderful those memories must be for you.

Me, well, I've not seen Wishes - yet! But will most certainly be doing so when I return to the World with my DBF. I'm sure your story will cross my mind as I'm watching, and no doubt I'll have tears whilst I'm watching also, there will be many thought trailing my mind at the time of watching.

Thank-you for sharing your story and no, it wasn't boring!!

Tink -

I no longer feel sad that Joan is not here - she is happily watching with me when I see Wishes.....she just has a BETTER view now!

That's wonderful :cloud9:

Such a lovely story - thankyou for sharing :)

I think even if you don't like fireworks, you'd like Wishes.

Recently, my DD6 and I were at the grand opening of a new shopping center and they had an amazing display of wireworks.
My DD6, being the Disney nut she is, turns to me and says "Mom, they need Wishes music to go along with their fireworks show, it would be much better.

To me, the show is purely magic, so touching and thought provoking, very moving.

You know the special magical feeling you get the first moment you step onto Main St? Multiply that by 10 and that is how I feel about Wishes. The soundtrack is amazing. In fact, I am listening to my cd of wishes as I write this. It is a perfect fit for the magic Kingdom and what it stands for. The show itself, but especially the music, makes me believe in the power of dreams and wishes. Especially after a wonderful day spent at the park with your family and or friends, just ending the day with them looking into the skies above the castle watching the sky illuminate with bright colors and booming sounds, with wonderful inspiring music playing along is just magnificent. I thank walt Disney every time i see this show for the wonderful vision he had and for his dream he brought to life , that dream called Disneyland and the magic Kingdom.

Wishes is like a kiss goodbye (for now) from Disney. I wish everyone could see it. I think it means different things to different people. That is what it means to me though.
