Can someone explain to me re anna and elsa

We waited for 5 hours to see them at Epcot. My DD is 3. We knew the line was insane, but the number one reason we went on that trip was to meet Anna and Elsa. The line sucked...but the meet and greet was amazing. She was in complete awe. She looks at the picture everyday (autographed frame mat in a frame on her dresser). It was a great moment for us and her grandparents and we all agreed it was worth the wait.

We have been since they moved to MK, but didn't do Epcot that trip so she didn't even ask about them. We are going in September and if I can't get a FP or if the line is still crazy and she asks I will just tell her we already had our turn and now it's time for the other children to meet them. ;)

Frankly, lying to kids for your own convenience and lying for their own enjoyment is worlds apart. I have no problem if you spell it out ahead of time you won't sit in line. Or even if you point out they're just actors, but when you say they aren't there, or whatever, you run the risk of destroying your kid's faith in you as a parent. But hey, they aren't my kids. Do whatever you want. I just find that astounding, more so than people waiting in line at the most magical line maker in the world.

2 hours is too long a wait for me, though I might decide to have one parent wait in line while the other takes the kids on rides. We were at DL today and DD was begging to see them. I keep explaining to her that the line is way too long and we will see them when we go to WDW and can get a fast pass. Frozen is both kids' favorite movie and they usually go to DL dresses as Anna/Elsa and Kristoff. They both really love meeting characters, but I do have my line standing limit. I won't wait 2 hours for anything.

I'm obviously not getting something.

:thumbsup2

But this thread doesn't actually seem to be about answering the question in the heading.
sigh.

I suppose it is mostly parents who haven't planned, I just wouldn't set my kid up.

people are being so pissy -

are you not lying to the children ... Isn't that a bit hypocritical?...you couldn't possibly have told the children these characters are real....that would be lying...wouldn't it?

:confused3 pixiedust: bye!

What is a DAS?

I stood in line at DL for four hours so my son could meet Anna and Elsa. My husband and son used that time for rides and checked in periodically. Not really sure why I was willing to do it, but honestly, it was crowded that day and I liked the chance to stay put and not fight crowds. Met some great people in line. My son loved it, and I would do it again. But I totally get why others wouldn't do it. If I had more than one child, if they had to stand in line with me, if we didn't have plenty of time, etc. Lots of reasons to do both.

And for me personally, i couldn't imagine using 4 or 5 hours of park time standing in line for anything.

Easy to say when you don't have to wait for anything. For some it is either do the wait or don't meet at all.

I waited 90 minutes for 7DMT during soft openings, but usually my limit is much less.

We do have a child that is eligible for DAS, but we do pretty well with FP+ and EMH and it just seems like a lot of extra hassle.

What is a DAS?

In simple terms it allows those with disabilities access to the rides in a way that suits their needs, for many this is in the form of getting a pass that holds your place in line and allows you to wait in a more comfortable way or do other things during this time and return 15 minutes prior to the standby length.

So in this case the OP used her Sons DAS to get a later time to return to meet A&E and then was able to use their FP+ bookings during this time and ride some other rides with a short standby time then return to the A&E meet and greet with a small wait (usually expected to be 15 minutes or less but in reality you join the FP line I believe)

Thank you for acknowledging this.

Agree. We were lucky to get a fp but my brother didn't. It was a once in a lifetime trip for them and a 9 hour flight. His DD was insistent on meeting A & E. It will be her only chance. Why should they not do it?
It is easy to pass judgement when you never have to be in that situation.

Counting down to 14th May!

Because we had fast passes during that time period and did not have to wait for anything from when we arrived at rope drop until our return time. Benefit of arriving at rope drop is very short lines. Combine with our fast passes we didn't wait more than 5 minutes for everything. We got lucky. If we didn't use it for A&E, we wouldn't have used it at all during that time frame.

Otherwise that is exactly what we would have done.

Not sure why people are being so pissy - I asked A Legitimate question because I didn't understand, and people have raised some very valid points, and I have a better understanding now.

People are being pissy because you said the magical word: DAS.

:thumbsup2 And kids aren't stupid. They're going to pass by that long line or hear other boys and girls talk about meeting Anna and Elsa and put it together.

How does she not have to wait for anything? Do you even know how DAS works? No, clearly you don't. If the current wait time is 40 minutes a castmember will shave off 10 minutes, making it a 30 minute wait for those with a DAS. So again, who doesn't have to wait? :confused3

Actually... This was out first time in 4 trips using the DAS, which we used only 3 times over the course of 3 days. I would gladly wait in line if it meant my son didn't have autism, which makes every single day a challenge for all of us.

We HAVE waited in line, numerous times, on 3 previous trips. With much difficulty, and getting out of line after waiting significant periods of time, much to the disappointment of my daughter, because my son could no longer take it anymore. And there were several rides that my son did not want to ride that we DID wait in line for, on this very trip. Just not for 2+ hours.

So no....I'm not just saying this as someone who never has to wait in line. I'm saying this as someone who, upon reading the responses, realizes that thought my daughter loves characters, she prefers rides, and all children are different. We did to out of our way to make sure we got 2 FP+ To splash mountain which is her favourite ride. So I sort of see it now. I just also know in our particular case she would never want to wait for anything that long, and obviously some other kids do, and maybe THAT is the highlight of their trip. I see that now. Which is why as asked the question - to understand why

I think I have acknowledged that I now understand why people might wait in line several times now! I asked the question originally because I did not understand.

You made a mistake by mentioning DAS and Anna and Elsa in the same sentence. This thread will turn ugly soon and no one will focus on your original question from here on out. :coffee:

So very much this.

I made a commitment to myself as a parent and a promise to my daughter when she was born that I would do everything in my power not to lie to her about anything, no matter how small. If she cannot trust her father to always tell her the truth, how can she trust anybody? It's not that hard to turn a potentially fraught question back on a child and let them talk themselves into it: "Are those the real Anna and Elsa, or just people in costumes?" "What do you think, hon?" Kids are AMAZING at coming up with their own justifications for things and answers to them. They do the work for you.

The only thing my daughter wanted to do (well, the most important part of our trip for her) at age four was to meet Rapunzel. This was in 2009 when the Rapunzel craze was rampant and they did that stupid M&G in groups... anyways... we got there early for rope drop and still didn't make the first groups in to see them. We waited 2hours in line plus the time we waited at rope drop to get there early.

It was important for my daughter, and if that is the ONE thing they have asked to do for their trip, then you do it. It's their vacation too. If everyone gets to pick one MUST DO for the trip, then the child can ask to meet a character.

My daughter is obsessed with A&E now at age seven (much like the rest of American elementary girls!) and we will do our best to get a FP+ for our September trip... Its a surprise trip so I cant ask her MUST DO ahead of time, but im 100% certain she will ask for A&E so I am planning for it ahead of time.

If I couldn't get a FP for it... yes I would wait, if she wanted to wait, then we wait. Its that simple... the vacation is for everyone, not just what makes the adults happy... and honestly, seeing the magic in my daughters eyes when she experiences these M&Gs makes me extremely happy.

Everyone has different priories, and we cant judge what makes one *better* than another. All I know is that this trip is for all of us and I will do what I can to let my child experience some magic. They are only little for a short amount of time. For us, its about experiences and not just the "all-mightly dollar". Sure its an expensive vacation, so we are going to enjoy it, all of us :thumbsup2
