can someone explain how the guide thing works?

I have read something about a "guide for life", what does this mean? Does this mean whoever I take my DVC tour with is the person I will deal with forever? DH and I will probably take the tour separately this trip (he is attending a conference so he has wacky hours), will it have to be with the same guide? Also, we have a 2 yo DD, I'm not sure if she would stay in the childcare area, what happens then? Can she stay with us? I am not willing to let her cry while we are gone for 2 hours...

I think that the childcare area is an option that you can decline to use. I can't imagine the guides telling clients that "your kids can't come along".

Yes, your guide is assigned to you as your one-and-only guide. If you wish to change that (if you're not happy with yours), you can request a permanent change to another guide.

I went to another guide on the DCL to do my 1st add-on. It did not change who my guide was. The cruise line guide merely set up the transaction for us. After that, we were back to our regular guide (who we really do like very much).

ok, what happens if your guide quits?retires, do they assign you another one? If your guide is on vacation when you want info, can you do business with another guide?

  1. Quit/retire, etc. : They would assign a new guide.
  2. Not available: Well, you will either have to wait until they return or speak to another guide. We did so (as we were on the DCL, our guide was not there).

Disney wants your DVC purchase experience to be a positive one. The Guide for life concept keeps the Guides from fighting over you. Should you get a Guide that you are not happy with, for what ever reason, Disney wants you to switch to a different Guide. Just contact the Sales Center, that's what we did.

Your DD shouldn't be a problem. Have her stay up late, maybe she will sleep through your visit with your Guide.

We did our tour in February. My 2 boys originally went into the childcare area. They gave me a pager to let me know if there were any problems. Well, my youngest son began crying hysterically after about 45 minutes (he wanted mommy & daddy). They tried to calm him down for a few minutes, but I specifically said that if he is still crying after 5-10 minutes to let me know. I picked him up and left my 5 year old since he was having a grand time. We were just to the point where we were going to tour the model rooms, so Cooper came with us (I brought the stroller with us). He was calm as can be - no problems.

Remember, your guide is just a salesperson. You deal with them during the initial purchase, and then there's no need to talk to them ever again unless you want to add more points. For the actual use of your membership, making reservations, etc., you'll be calling Member Services, not your guide.

I bought in Dec. 2001, and I haven't spoken with my guide since then. She's assigned to my account, and will remain so for as long as she works there, but I haven't had any need to contact her.

Don't worry about it. Most likely your guide will only talk to you for your purchases, maybe right after, and maybe leave a welcome home message for you while you are at WDW. I'm on my third guide (the other two retired).

I did not have a good experience with my guide, so I made sure that customer satisfaction was notified of it. But, unfortunately, they told me that if I wanted a new guide that they could not take care of it, that I would have to call myself to get it switched. If I have a choice, I will never speak to the original guide again if I can help it. The one that ended up closing our deal was fantastic, even called us once we got home to see if we had made reservations. The original one did not, we haven't heard a word from her yet.

I suppose I better change it soon with the way we add on points!! HAHAHA
