Can someone explain CVSing - I dont get it!

When I was in CVS on Monday they were already out of several sale items. I asked the cashier about it and she said that those items go really fast. She suggested that I shop on Sunday when the ad comes out OR....

she said that you can shop on Sat. night and that they honor both the "old" circular items and the "new" circular items on that night. Anyone had success doing this? Seems that the computer would not allow it. Is she wrong?

Thoughts?

Hmmm. The ad I have seen shows the deal as 3/$10 for General Mills Cereal.

Yeah - that is what the electronic ad showed that I saw but while I was in today I asked if they had the next ad and they did. I was glancing through it and low/behold it shows 3/9.00 in our ad.

Well, that is good to know. I really didn't think the 3/$10 was such a great deal.

The other thing I notice is that the picture seems a little confusing as near the folgers coffee it states buy 20.00 of general mills cereal or folgers coffee + get 10ECB's and then in that same "frame block" it shows a few cereals AND nature valley granola bars (which are owned by general mills). Does anyone know if those are included in the buy 20.00?

Anyone know for the this Sunday's new promo's if the buy $20.00 get 10ECB on General Mills Cereal is exactly 20.00? They have buy 3 for 9.00 so I am wondering if it will be similar to the Charmin/Bounty deal where it ended up being 19.80.

Speaking of the Charmin/Bounty Deal I ended up in my original transaction getting one to many charmins as I thought I had to be at least at the 20.00 to get the deal. Then I see on the receipt, etc. and through here it only had to be 19.80. I went in today for just a couple of items (wanted to finish out my dawn deals) and decided to return one of the charmins as I obviously didn't need it. Now on my receipt from a purchase today it no longer says limit reached but that "Amount needed to earn this reward: 19.80". I'm not going to get anymore, etc. so its not like I will double dip but my worry is that somehow they will not "give" me future ECB's totally the 10.00 because it was a return - any ideas on how they handle that stuff?

Don't know if I'm reading your question right, but I don't think the CVS computer will know whether or not you returned anything. As for what your receipt said, I did my Bounty deal on Sunday and it said offer limit reached. I went today to pick up a few things (not Bounty) and instead of saying limit reached it said the same thing yours did. I guess this just means that they changed the limit on this deal to at least 1 (much like they changed the limits on the Smart Rinse and the Oral B brushes a few days into the month). So, if you wanted to, you could go back and get 19.80 worth of Charmin/Bounty stuff and get $10 ECBs again. The return you made won't have any effect on it.

My CVS always starts their new deals on Saturday afternoon. Some people have reported that sometimes their CVS has the sale prices on Saturday, but will NOT print ECBs. I've never had that experience. Last week, I did the Febreeze deal from this week on Saturday afternoon, and they rang up sale price and printed ECBs. However, the other CVS I went to on Saturday didn't have any sale prices up. Also, even though the sale prices might not be marked, it's likely they will still ring up on sale, so just doublecheck with a scanner before you buy the products to make sure it's the sale price.

Thank you! I think that i will run by on Sat. afternoon and check it out. At least I have learned that some things will be gone by monday morning.

I got one final trip in tonight for the week.

$4 - 4 chex mix
.88 - glade air freshener
$3.49 - smart rinse
$6.99 - oral b toothbrush

$15.36 subtotal

-$4-4 chex mix coupons
-$1 smart rinse coupon
-$3 off $15 coupon
-$2 ecb
-$1 ecb
-$4 ecb

.36 oop total

ecb's recvd
$6.99 oral b toothbrush
$3.49 smart rinse

I'm looking at next weeks ad and will probably go with the general mills cereal deal, the revlon cosmetics deal and maybe the candy deal.

/sigh

the ad my CVS gave me was 3/10 for the cereal

This is the same price in our area and that is no bargain. Publix has the GM cereal as BOGO free so I will do that instead. Plus the Fiber One bars are only $2.34 at Target. The Folgers looked good for a moment but it is much cheaper at Sams Club. I try to look at my "net savings" including the ECBs.

I still plan to get the Cokes, some more Smart Rinse, and will buy the Scott tp as the CVS sale price makes it cheaper than Sams.

I admit that I was a bit dissapointed in this weeks CVS deals but we are leaving for WDW in just 2 days so that makes me feel much better. ;) :cool1:

The CVS stores which I patronize here in LA have the same policy; you can buy the items advertised in Sunday's ad after 3 PM, but you won't get the ECBs until Sunday.

One more technicality question.....

The GM cereal is 3/$10 in our area (not such a great deal) and I have a coupon for $1 off of 2 boxes which effectively brings the price down to
3/$9. I would also buy one can of Folgers for $10. So would my total be $20 of GM/Folgers products or would my total be $19 of GM/Folgers products? Would I still get the $10ECB if I use the $1 coupon? I dont want to then have to buy another box of cereal to bring the total back over $20.

Do I make any sense? :faint:

You would get the $10 ECB, coupons don't count against the total needed to get ECBs, that's the whole secret to CVS shopping :)

Thanks LanaJae! That is what I thought was the case but I did not want to get to the register and have an issue.

I am on my way to CVS.:moped:

I did my first CVS trip today. All I got was Diet Coke 4/$11, but I did get ECB back to use. I was going to buy suntan lotion too, but I think I can get a better deal at BJ's.

Our area had the 3/9 in the ad's even though some of the displays had 3/10 - they all rang up at 9.00. Here is the break down

2 Honey Nut Cheerios 6.00
2 Cinnamon Toast Crunch 6.00
3 Nature Valley Bars (Yes this did count towards the ECB) 9.00

Subtotal - 21.00

Coupons:
3.00 off with 15.00 purchase
-.65
-.65
-.60
-.60
-.55
-.55

Used 11.99 ECB's
Received 10.00 ECB (And yes it appeared you had to have at least 20.00 to get the ECB's).

Total with Tax OOP:
2.52

Hi everybody: I did my CVSing this afternoon, this was my 2nd week of "working" the CVS plan. It was a good shopping trip. :dance3:

I got:

case of water 3.99
Scott tp 5.99 (better than price at Sams Club)
4 coke products 11.00
sunsreen (not the best deal but we needed it) 8.99
Smart Rinse (1) 3.49
2 - boxes of Ziplock baggies 2/4.99 (not a great deal but I also had a $1.50 coup which made it much better and it saved me a trip to Walmart to buy baggies)

I had $22 of coupons including a couple of manu coups, a $3/$15 coup, and my ECBs from last week.

Total after coups/ECBs was $17.12. I also received $8.49 in ECBs for next week. I passed on the cereal/Folgers promotion even though I had some extra cereal coups. The kids did not want to eat more cereal so it is not a good deal for us if we wont use it.

While getting only $8.49 in ECBs was not the best, I got 2 weeks worth of products for only $17 and that is a huge savings for my budget. I am being very careful not to buy products that I dont need just b/c they have ECBs. There are a few things that are still not a good deal even if you "net" out the ECBs from the price and I just skip those completely.

So, it was a good trip but not a great return on the new ECBs but next week may be better. Plus, I am really getting the hang of the manu coups and those make a huge difference in the savings.

Have a great week everyone and dont stop posting. I have learned sooooo much with this thread, lets keep the lesson going!:)

If you can use Folger's rather than cereal, you should do that deal too because you could buy 2 for $20, use a $3/15, your $8.49 in ECBs and come home with a $10 ECB for next week.

If I have already printed and used the $3/$15 can I print another one?

I was going to get the Folgers but they did not offer decaf. I am probably the only person on earth who only drinks decaf!!

Thanks for the encourgement, this is sooo much fun:cool1: :cool1:
