Can someone else pay with AP discount?

I'm going to DL with a friend and our two DDs in March. I have a Signature AP; she's using regular tickets. We're planning on some shopping and character dining using my AP discount. The question is: does the AP holder have to pay for everything her discount is used for, or can my friend pay with her credit card if I present my AP? (Obviously, I'd have to be present for anything my AP is used for.) Assuming she can pay, what about splitting checks at TS places? Would there be a problem applying my discount to the entire check, but with both of us paying our own?

yes the AP holder has to pay; you'll have to show your ID & the name has to match your credit card

HOWEVER...when we go with my parents (who don't have APs) and we go to a character meal, they give us cash or gift cards ahead of time (because we typically pay with gift cards there anyhow).

I think if you split a check the discount will probably be on your half only since they usually don't apply the discount until we pay.

As the previous poster says, you have to pay. I tried to let my brother use my AP to buy a caramel apple about six weeks ago and they wouldn't allow it. I had to pay with my card. They wouldn't let him use his. I could be wrong, but I suppose it's possible that some CMs are more lenient than others, as some are with Fast Passes.

They are quite strict on this. Have your friend buy a gift card and give it to you for her purchases. Be prepared for the "Why 2 transactions?" question.

Be VERY inconspicuous if you do this. They can and WILL deactivate your AP discount perk if you get caught abusing the system.

So in my last trip two weeks ago, I was with a person that insisted on paying for everything counter service but did not have an AP. Cast member would ask if she had an AP then I would present mine and she got the AP discount. I know they were pretty hard line for a while that CC name had to much AP name so I finally asked a cast member if they changed policy. She said not officially but they are not as strict on the requiring the cast members to check and verify....and of course the next cast member did check but it was one transaction of maybe 8 all day.

If the party is paying cash, you can use your AP discount. If they are paying CC, you are not supped to get AP discount but consider it a bonus if they allow it.

I think it's really depends on the cast member. I have never been denied buying food though, we split checks all the time.

We've been having problems with our premier passes not allowing discounts and have to call for leads. Out of 5 passes, only 1 is working. So we tried using my nieces pass with me paying at Rancho, and they very firmly denied me. (Firmly enough they got a letter and I got an apology.) Never had a problem with table service, but with everything else, we get the "Name must match" line.

yeah, they've always asked us for id's to compare to our passes/credit cards. when i'm traveling with family, i always tell them to take cash (or gift card) and give it to me before we even get to the register. one time my brother in law wanted to buy a ride photo with our discount and when he handed the money to the cast member she told him she was going to turn around and make the money magically switch to my husband's hand so he could pay.

Well, we chatted about it, and my friend is going to buy a gift card to use for purchases, and we'll figure out how to do things like the Plaza breakfast. WOC dessert package doesn't have an AP discount, so that's not a problem. I'm glad I thought to ask about this early enough for her to plan.

It seems that cast members are strict about having the person with the AP pay for merchandise but not so much when it comes to purchasing food.

We found them to be very strict even for food. I have a higher level of pass than my husband does and get a bigger dinning discount and had planned for him to pay for all our food not thinking about the names not matching. At table service meals I always had to pay or put down cash. It was a lot easier when we were staying on property as I could just sign for it to be charged to the room and we only put his card down for incidentals.

We've haven't had problems getting discounts at table service, but have had issues with counter service.

If you're real lucky someone will buy you an AP as a giftie.

I've always been told that for Food using the AP is okay as Long as the passholder is in the Party. At Ariel's Grotto last trip they even asked us if someone in the Party had an AP specifically.

The only time I had Problems was last year when buying Popcorn to take home. I was using my Card, and unfortunately my bank gets a Little crazy on Occasion with non-German charges. So after working all trip of course the very final purchase - cheddar cheese popcorm to take home for the record - my Card denies. My friend who was with me tried to save me digging for my wallet and handed me 10 bucks cash. Boy did the CM go off on me that I couldn't use my Discount on her purchase. Umm... you just saw my Card declining?

Huh. I also have a higher pass than my husband, but we didn't have any problem with him paying using my AP discount at Cafe Orleans last time we were there. That was the only TS we did on that trip, but I think he used his card at some of the CS places as well.

It was consistently strict when we had our APs. Strict to the point where BFF was not allowed to use her AP to purchase items handed to her in line by her (then) 13 year old daughter. Daughter also had an AP so it was all good in the end, although it meant that the CM had to ring up two purchases which we thought was silly. We asked her that since she could see that Daughter had an AP couldn't she just go ahead and do it all on BFF's AP and she said she couldn't.

Once in World Of Color I tried to use my AP and my Mother tried to hand them cash---um no! They made my Mom give me the cash (and they were not happy still) and I had to hand it to them. So I'm going with the very strict about it group.

I found this quite inconsistent. Sometimes they asked for an ID along with my pass, other times they just took it and applied the discount.
