What exactly is this that they're building?? Is it rides, dining or more an imagination 'land' with special effects, or a mix of all? Where in AK are they putting this? What age group will this generally be for?

There will apparently be two "rides, " Na'vi River Journey and Avatar Flight of Passage. As with most things at WDW, it's for all age groups but there may not be any rides intended to appeal primarily to young children. Pretty much guaranteed that there will be plenty to look at. Not sure there will be any TS restaurants. Might be some QS or food stands.

I believe the Flight ride is supposed to be more on the thrilling side and will likely have a height requirement. The boat ride should be comparable to POTC (many are comparing it to the new Pirates at DL Shanghai - watch a video if you haven't seen it. It's AMAZING!).

Thank you all! Thinking this may be a reason to include AK back in our plans if its all systems go when we arrive this time next year.

We visited the Nomad lounge in AK and talked to a cast member. 2 rides with the idea is for you to walk in and be immersed in the land. Bright vibrant colors as well. And that's all I got :)

2 rides

Flight of Passage- a flying ride that takes place on the back of a banshee from the movie. This will be an experience, full e ticket type ride.

Navi river journey will be a boat ride featuring animatronics and sets.

This land is in what used to be camp Minnie Mickey.

The land will be 11-12 acres and feature huge floating mountains that encompass the land.

As for dining there will be a large mess hall like in the movie. No word on type of food yet though.

Prepare to be wowed.

I don't know why AK wouldn't be in your plans already but that's just me.

This will be our 5th time there in 7 years, we've seen every show multiple times and the 'rides' other than EE we don't particular care for or enjoy. Add to that my daughter's hyperactivity, she gets 'bored' very quickly there.

Understable. It's my favorite park I could never get bored there. They also have the new rivers of light show that would be worth seeing as well as all of the new nighttime activities. So avatar wouldn't be the only new thing.

Thank you - hoping to get the park back in there somewhere although shamefully i'll admit none of us have seen Avatar yet but is on my list to watch before we go back. =) (my daughter never watched tv as a little, and first time we took her to WDW she had no idea who or what any of the princesses or characters were so it was interesting to see her interact with them.

The YouTube video I watched was annoying - does everyone in Shanghai take flash photos with cellphones through out all the attractions?

OP - we're waiting patiently for Pandora to open, and hoping the special effects are better developed than the most recent WDW tries - namely the Yeti and the iffy Frozen redo of Maelstrom. Imagineers were trying to get the lighting effect for walking paths as seen in the movie.

There was a lot of leaked footage and footage during the castmember preview/testing week.. I find newer videos when the bloggers and such started to show up after the opening to be much better and easier to tell what's going on.
