...at a later date?

DW & I are planning a 10 day'er at SSR in Feb., our 1st "Homecoming." We were planning on a 1 bed to accomidate Grandma and us. But now we are kicking around taking her sister and her 2 kiddies too.

If our ressies are made for the 2 bed, and the SIL decides she can't make it (she's ill) can we downgrade to a 1 bed prior to the trip without loosing points or are we stuck with the 2 bed?

Thanks,to all of you in advance:wave2:

You could switch to the 1 bedroom if there is availability as long as it is 31 days or more before the arrival date. The extra points will be returned to your account. Watch the banking rules. 30 days or less, they would go into a holding account and can only be booked 60 days before arrival and cannot be banked.

As far as I know, downgrading is treated like any other cancellation or change, other than the fact that cancelling your 2 bedroom should free up a 1 bedroom (plus a studio.)

However, if your SIL can't go because her illness becomes more serious, that might change things. In case of illness, the DVC has sometimes been flexible in allowing changes past the usual date. I don't think you can count on this, though -- it's just something special they sometimes do to help out in true emergencies.

I suppose that if you have a lock-off unit, you could also try to rent the studio portion. About half the SS 2-bedrooms are lock-offs. I'm not sure you can be guranteed of getting one, though.

I guess it would be more effective to attempt an upgrade later on closer to our departure date as opposed to downgrading with the possibility of penality.

I'm not concerned about the banking of points for this vacation. Our UY and our planned homecoming ara both in February. We'll just take it day by day.

Thanks!!

A one bedroom has only one bed- a king size. Unless you are going to have grandma sleep in the living room, I would suggest you stick with the two bedroom, grandma deserves a bathroom and bed to herself. When ever I had a exta guest beyond two I always get a 2 bedroom it makes it more comfortable for everyone involved, plus grandma after a day or two at WDW may want to go to bed early, she deserves her own bed and bath.

I saw a thread where a kid slept in the tub, maybe Grandma would go for that? ...Just kidding!

Point well taken on the 2 bed option, I guess we at least owe that to her.:p

Thanks!
