Can religious holidays...

I don't have a problem with having fun on Easter. In fact, I just got off the phone making plans for Sunday dinner. It should be fun as we are celebrating with our dear friends. What I do have a problem with is all the celebrating that takes place before Easter Sunday. For me, in order to celebrate Easter, Lent and Holy Week need to be observed first.

Dang. Y'all must be presbyterian now, if she's preachin trinitarianism to you at such a young age. That sounds like the children's catechism. Is there more than one God? No, there is only one God. How many persons are in the one God? Three, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

She goes to a Lutheran school, where we also attend church. We occasionally attend a Catholic church, too. We're people without a religion, really. No wonder she's messed up.

Is there a Religion For Dummy's? Because I need one.

I went to a Lutheran school when I was younger and remember pestering the teachers with all sorts of questions. :teeth:

Close enough. Seems like I recall reading something about Luther and Calvin pm'ing each other about theology and stuff.

With all due respect, do you not have anything better to do right now than DIS?

It's siesta time. :teeth: Four hours on the beach have exhausted me and if one more rugrat ran by screaming and getting sand on my oily skin, well I shouldn't be held responsible for what would happen.:rotfl:

I was truly sad that none of the children at my center (cathloic based) knew the real reason we celebrated easter. Well, gatta love Julie who tried to explain it. " Jesus died to keep us safe. At easter we celebrate the memory of him." I think she did good. She was trying to advoid the concept of resrection.

My sister was five and learned about easter in sunday school. ON easter sunday she told om we had to go to the cemetary. Mom asks why. DSis replies: "The dead come back to life on Easter, We need to pick up Nana and Pop pop or they will be mad"

I don't see why Santa or the Easter bunny, etc has to be excluded, I see them as cultural traditions, not as being anti-religious. We (my family) see Easter as a celebration of Jesus' resurrection and still enhance the day with the bunny and the eggs and the candy. Including that stuff doesn't change our beliefs or make them less important.

 Oh please.

What? It's true. You think Christians were the first ones to think up the resurrection thing? There is very little that's "orginal" about any religion, they all borrow and steal from eachother's doctrines. I'm sorry if you find it offensive.

My feelings exactly.

Beautifully said!:thumbsup2

I just HAVE to say the only weird thing about the FUN side & the RELIGIOUS side of Easter is the CHOCOLATE EDIBLE CROSS they sell. I always thought that was a bit bizarre!:confused3

That was my thought as well.

I think the Pastor of the Church was saying, "Well.... the Easter Bunny may have brought you colored eggs and a basket full of chocolate but Jesus Christ brought you eternal life and He won't melt in your hand."

.......:lmao:

*shakes head* organized religion......:rotfl2:

Resurrection thing? Yes, I do find very offensive especially right before Easter. :sad2:

The concepts of religion are too difficult for children to comprehend. Easter Bunny and Santa are ways to teach them the concepts and keep their interest.

Actually I have found with my kids that children are way easier to teach religious concepts because they accept what ever they are presented with. They don't doubt anything.

Anyway, we love the Easter Bunny in our very religious home, but my kids have been taught that a bunny in spring is another sign of new life, as is an Easter egg, just as Jesus had new life when he was resurrected, and as we will when we leave this Earth.

Santa is also a saint. St. Nicholas, so I don't know what is unreligious about that. Although, I know he has been commercialized as everything has been by people who do not subscribe to religion, but like to join in on the fun. That's fine, as long as my kids know the true meaning, I don't get upset.

I think the sign that the OP saw at the church is just a reminder to people that easter isn't about the bonnets, new outfits, candy, bunny etc. The Holiday exists solely to celebrate Jesus' resurrection and ascention into Heaven. All those other things are nice to help us celebrate, but some kind of forget the whole Jesus part, and "worship" the other stuff.

Next thing you will say is the Ten Commandments are not original either.
