Can no longer see banked vs current UY points on reservations?

I have 4 ressies for OCT and I wrote down on each conformation email what points were used so when I make any changes I know what I have to work with. I got tired calling MS to ask about what points were used.

One thing you can do is also screen shot the points summary immediately after booking which breaks it down.

Question. If a 7 month booking is modified and I “sub in” another contract, does the reservation number change? I want to cancel a December reservation and add the banked points to a rented booking by modifying as discussed here.

Any modification to a reservation will keep the reservation number, but if it has been entered into MDE, there may be a notice to update it if online check in has already happened,

This happens sometime to me when I swap around points.

I saw this post on Facebook by Amy Krieger. Why is MS able to change points used in an existing reservation if more than one contract is involved, but they can't change points used with only 1 contract?

The system only uses points from contracts you select. From any contracts you select it will always use borrowed and banked points before current points and that's whether you select one contract or more. So if you select multiple contracts and all have banked points it will use them and then move back up thru the order you selected contracts to take current points. MS has some more tools available but the way any owner can help control points used is to use dummy bookings to "hold" the points they don't want used on a reservation they are booking. So you could book some dummy reservation several months out that uses borrowed or banked points from a contract and then book the reservation you want which will use whatever borrowed or banked points are left and then move onto the current points. Then once you've booked that go back and cancel the reservation you made to set aside some of the borrowed or banked points and they will be returned to the account. Just make certain that reservation is further out than 31 days so you don't accidently put points into holding.

This is a good tip on how to manage your banked and borrowed points, thank you! I've also now realized if you bank or borrow points and want to use them for an existing reservation, modify that reservation before booking a new one. I did not realize that points used in a reservation are tied to that reservation unless you cancel to free up those banked/borrowed points. That may not always been an option based on room availability. First year DVC growing pains but I won't make these mistakes again. 😄

If the banked or borrowed points were used to secure the December reservation then they are tied to it. The only way to free them up to use on your October reservation is to cancel the December trip. Once you've done that, the points can be reallocated to October using the modify process. I don't know of any other way to accomplish what you want to do without calling MS and hoping that you get a CM who can magically hold the December nights while reassigning the banked points to your October stay.
I agree. I have asked and talked to several CMs including supervisors and they have said you can not move points around while in a reservation.

Welp, in a last ditch effort to try and reallocate my banked points to an earlier reservation.. I wound up losing a night. I modified my reservation to be one day shorter and tried to rebook it as a separate reservation. I searched in another window immediately after completing the modification and the room was available! Clicked continue to book and get 'we're sorry the room is no longer available, please try your search again' and the room is now gone. I guess this could be evidence that they're grabbing waitlist room inventory immediately instead of a job that runs at a certain time of day? I don't know, but now I'm homeless for a night with flights already booked and not enough points to book another room. 😭

Good trick. Thanks, had not thought of that.

I suspect an individual took it if it was there. Sorry to hear. So annoying that they make it difficult to use the points you want to.
