Can my 5 year old ride Soarin'?

If he meets the height requirement, try it. But if he's afraid of heights, it might not be such a good idea. My dad just about had a panic attack on it (we were in the 1st row though).

You might want to try row 3 the first time to make sure that he doesn't have a problem with the heights but the show itself is not scary.

I think it is 42". My 3 1/2 yr old dd is only 35.5" (was even smaller, back in August!), so was not allowed on...and apparently won't be for some time. My 5 + 7 yr olds loved it, although my 7yo closed her eyes a good part of the time.

Now me, I could not stand it. Simulators mess with me anyway. I closed my eyes most of the time, and thought it was a cute ride.

We were at WDW over New Year's and there is no longer a height requirement for Soarin'. They added a center loop that you run the seat belt through for little ones. As for whether he will like it - that depends on the child. I have a 15 year old with autism who would ride it all day long. My 13 year old really doesn't enjoy it because he does not like heights. He always rides it with us, but prefers the ride if we are on the lowest level.

Thanks again everyone for all the replies....you know, I don't think my little guy is even 42"...last we checked he was about 39"...he is very small for 5!!

Guess we'll see when we get there! I'm terrified of heights, maybe I will be the one not wanting to go on!!

I'm not crazy about heights either, but the good thing is the parts where they lift you off the ground at the beginning and lower you back down at the end are all in the dark so you can't see how much you're moving (even if you're in the last row). You also don't really feel the ride moving up and (later) down a lot; it's very gentle motion. So, unless you know ahead of time how high each row goes and are thinking about it, it doesn't feel like you're that high (to me anyway). I definitely didn't feel like I was 40 feet off the ground.

**WARNING*** possible spoiler if you haven't ridden Soarin'--probably not, but maybe.

My then 4-yo rode it last August, and he fit fine in the seat (he was tall enough, but is a bit on the small side). He says it was "scary" because of the scene at the end with the fireworks. The rest of it he was fine.

My twin girls rode the "original" Soarin in California Adventure when they were 3 and then again at 5 just last Nov. in Epcot. They loved it both times. It's a great ride.

Oh, I am terrified of heights too. Seriously terrified. And yet for some reason this ride does not scare me, so go for it. You won't regret going on it, but you will regret not even giving it a shot. Have a blast! :flower:
