Can moderators totally delete a thread?

Ok I know that threads can be locked but can they be deleted all together???? I was reading a thread earlier and now I can't find it, is it possible the moderators totally deleted it? TIA

Not just possible because it actually happens. But it is very RARE, and always very justified IMO.

Well not to spread rumors but I think they deleted that particular thread....there were post as recent in it as 4:30 b/c I read it right before I left work and now I can't find it...so I guess it was deleted. We are better off without it anyways...

Yes, I'm sure they can be deleted because last year I was reading a thread, it had only been on for a very short time (a matter of minutes), I was about the 3rd reply to the OP, & I went back a little later & it was totally gone.


It was not even coming up when I tried to view my "thread subscriptions".

I never said the OP was banned I was just asking if threads can be deleted.

But does that mean if the moderators delete your thread then you are banned?

That's what it will look like when you link to a thread that has been deleted. Surprisingly, they still show up in the search.

And you can have threads deleted without being banned.

Of course we can delete threads. Ever wonder why you don't see much spam on the DISboards? It's because we delete it.

We also either lock or delete threads that get get ugly. And we do sometimes ban posters, but starting a thread that gets deleted doesn't mean the poster will be banned.

Most bannings are due to flagrant violations of our posting guidelines (fighting/rudeness, profanity, advertising, etc.)

If the count on my post did go down it is probably b/c I did post a question to the OP in the thread I was questioning and if the thread was deleted than my post number must have also.

I normally don't post on controversial threads, which the post in question was, but today I did b/c it was "military bashing" and I was offeneded since I am a Veteran, my Dfi is active duty and all my good friends are active duty also. I was polite in the post and had just asked the OP a nice question and was looking to see if the OP had responded back.

Now I know why I don't post on those types of threads or a lot in general. Thank you all who responded I have my answer now.

I think I know what thread to which you refer. I checked it at 4:30 and when I got home at 6:45 it was gone, and it wasn't in my subscription either. I think it was good that it got deleted. Of course I can't help but wonder what was said to get it deleted....and don't worry mods., I'm not planning on starting anything.

I read about the thread that must have gotten deleted today. Glad I didn't check it out. Usually I want to be where the action is, but not on that type of thread--even I have my limits.
