Can I Wear the New "Puck" With My Current Magic Bands?

http://www.magicbandcollectors.com/exclusive-new-fitbit-style-magicband-change-is-in-development/

I'm not certain how close it is to being used. This website reported the purple bands and it was a long, long, long time before they appeared. :)

Thanks. They look thick and clunky. As a non-fan of the entire new FP+ / Magicband system I doubt I'd like these any better.... Why don't they just microchip us like pets as we enter since they're into tracking how many times a day we pee and where we eat & what we ride?!

I'm waiting for that option to be offered. ::yes::

I actually like the magicbands very much and do not like the look of the puck. I enjoy buying the seasonal ones and special ones. Disney jewelry to me.

Imagine the rush, especially if they'd offer a discount on tickets

More likely, via a magical disneyesqe spin, they'd charge us for the privlege.

I don't understand the puck-hate. The puck is just the center mickey head, and you cand change it out in your bands. There will likely be new bands that come out with the puck, and you would insert it into your band of choice. So you could wear a mickey band one day, a villians band another day, etc, without having to change anything in MDE. And when your puck battery dies, you can just get a new puck to place into your band collection. I think it is a cool idea. I'm assuming there will be other puck accessories, like necklaces, keychains, belt buckle, hat clip.... the possibilities are endless. No need to run around with a cluncky rubber bracelet in the hot florida sun.

Endless for making Disney money - simply on your ticket entry media. If one bought a band to put it in it would essentially be no different than the current style. But where you now get the band you'll very likely have to buy one if that's how you want to "carry" the puck although perhaps they'll do a generic one with your first puck.

I was thinking of buying custom bands as Christmas gifts for our May trip, but now maybe I shouldn't, just in case they do require the new puck by then and old bands don't work?

Disney tests lots of things... doesn't mean they will happen. not sure why so many websites picked up on this and thought it was happening overnight

There is no reason to think that the pucks and bands won't coexist. It's literally the same technology, just in a different form factor. Both the puck and the band can be read from long range and at close range. Disney won't invalidate the many millions of magic bands that are already out there.

The biggest benefit is for both Disney and Guests: Each person now only needs one puck. They can then swap the puck itself in to many different bands...or necklaces...belt clips...etc. You now only have one puck associated with your DME account, but can swap the color/design/or even form factor without having to mess with your DME account. This saves the guest hassle (door locks not working, magic bands needing to be "reactivated", etc. that is generally being caused by people having dozens of magic bands associated with their DME accounts) and it saves Disney money by not having to include all the electronics for each magic band they issue.

I wonder if DVC members will get "free" pucks like they get free magic bands? If so, wonder if they will come with an accessory to wear it or just the "puck" itself?
