can i use the busses after checkout?

Guests of Disney's Resorts (meaning anyone who has stepped foot on Disney property to shop, dine, sightsee) can use the transportation. It is not required to be a registered guest, have a theme park ticket, have an ADR or anything else).

Liz

It's about the same as the sign on Sherbeth Road, which reads:

"PRIVATE PROPERTY. Walt Disney World Resort Guest, Cast and Business Invitees only"

I always find this sign quite funny... As if Disney would or could enforce this.

I also wonder how many people drive on Vista Blvd every day between Live Oak Lane and County Road 535 even though there is a sign reading "Service & Authorized Vehicles only". Anyway, there is only a sign on the Live Oak Lane side but not on County Road 535.

Please link us to the Disney site that states that busses are for the exclusive use of hotel guests. Or name the info packet in which you found this.

I'll happily check. :)

Please reread my post...I did not say just hotel guests.

As to the Disney site,it has been quoted here many times, and even after being qouted some folks just wiggle around it. So I M NOT LOOKING IT UP AGAIN.

My point is its NOT open to anyone wandering into the WDW property it is not *public* transportation.

Have a great day:)

Thats pretty much splitting the finest of hairs though. WDW is private property, but they don't prohibit anyone from coming on property. Your local shopping mall is private property. YEARS ago Disney did issue special transportation cards that you had to show the bus drivers - the last time I remember having one was in 1988, I think - it may have been before that though. 4 hotels, 2 themeparks - Disney was not the all encompassing beast it is now.

The fact is once you are on property you are a guest - whether its for parks or shopping or dining. If you want to go to a resort, or where ever for an afternoon/evening and wander around - you are free to do so on their transportation. Its not "public" transportation in that it only travels to Disney locations, but its certainly open to anyone who happens to be on Disney property for whatever reason.

Now WDW does connect to Orlando's public transportation. Lynx stops at TTC. If you didn't want to pay to park from off site you could take the bus in from 192/I-Drive and transfer at TTC. It doesn't really get much more public than that.

Transportation is for WDW Resort guests. If you have 1 foot on property somewhere - you are a WDW Resort guest. A bus driver has no business asking for any type of ID. I can stay at my mom's and come over to Ft. Wilderness for dinner anytime I want - no resort ID required, no theme park ticket required. Heck, my kids can go and ride the ponies - not even eat and its none of the bus drivers business.

Actually, as I understand it, until about 3am - Extra Magic Hours can run that late!

If charging privileges are different, I can't speak to that as it is my preference not to put anything on a room charge after I get my nice little checkout folio.

Regardless of how late a park is open for EMH, dining credits still expire at 11:59.59 on checkout day.

I tried to use a credit at 12:00AM during the MK EMHs the last night of my trip. They didn't work.

I can't speak to charging to your room, because we only pay in cash once we're there.

Hi Melissa,

Sorry to disagree., but I must say you put your points out nicely!

Disney transportation is not for *anyone for whatever reasons*. I feel a disney guest is somone who is registered in a hotel/resort, dining. parks or some disney venue. Somone just riding the buses boats or monorails for no reason or just cheating the system for entertainment is not a guest.

Disney reserves the right to check resort cards, dinning resv., etc.

Example:

If your shopping at DTD you park there. Your not supposed to ride the buses to the resorts or FW for no reason

Your not supposed to ride the buses to get to the Monorail or the boats and ride for entertainment.

If the transportation gets over loaded Diseny will put more restrictions on it and maybe start charging.

I know I get flamed for this, but we each have our own opinions.

In any case..We will have to agree to disagree.!:thumbsup2

Have a great next visit!

Thanks for the additional correction/clarification. I never do the dining plan, and would hate to think I was misleading somebody.

But according to Disney anyone who steps a foot onto Disney property is a resort guest, so if I want to use the bus to travel from DTD to where ever and back again just for the sake of it to look at the scenery, I am allowed.

Disney allows this for a number of reasons, but in my opinion the biggest reason is because I may just see something like a fabulous hotel and decide to stay there on a future visit.

We are staying at All Star Sports resort June 7-12.

We will be driving back to SC that day and I wanted to fit T-Rex in for lunch before we head home. I got a reservation for 11 am on Jun 12 when they open. I know check-out is at 11 am, but can we still take the Disney bus from All Star Sports to Downtown Disney and back to get there, if we have checked out?

I did 5-day park hopper passes for June 7-11 if that matters. I hope not.

What part of SC are you from?...We are from right outside Charleston..

We drive down every trip and always spend a couple hours or so at DTD on departure day then we cruise International Drive hitting a couple tourist shops...we dont get out of Orlando till about 3 each time and get home about 10ish...anyway as others have said Drive your car it will be easier than taking the bus transportation...We also drive each day to the parks instead of using the bus...its easier and quicker...The bus system is usually a pain in the BUS....

have a good trip....:thumbsup2

Disney isn't going to stop anyone from using their transportation, because people who go to DTD or the resorts are spending money. I can't really see them taking the time to check for resort IDs:confused3 to ride on a crowded bus. And what about the monorail and boat from TTC to MK? Those are Disney transportation, but many people getting on them are not resort guests. How are they supposed to get there, FLY?

Obviously, it is not public transportation, b/c it doesn't go anywhere buy Disney venues, but it's not a perk for resort guests only.

Everybody else has addressed the bus issue, I want to address this. You may be planning to use your hoppers from the 7th to the 11th but there is nothing that limits them to those dates. If you first use the passes on June 7, you can use them at any time during the 14 days that start with June 7. You do not have to use them on consecutive days.

Silly question (and forgive me if it has already been mentioned...),

Why not just drive to DTD? There is no fee to park there and honestly, where the busses drop you off in relation to T-Rex, it will be easier for you and the family, especially the last day of your trip, to drive. You will be able to park right next to the restaurant. You can't miss it from the parking lot.

We did a last trip day ressie at T-Rex and took the bus. We had to walk the entire length of DTD to get there. The Westside bus stop wouldn't have been any closer.

I highly recommend driving to save time and energy before you hit the road.

Ha, so are we! (Summerville area) Small world. :)

thanks - yeah, we have our itinerary planned out and are hoping to only do t-rex (maybe a little more at DTD) before we go home. i just meant in my original post that we plan to only use the passes june 7-11 (but who knows what happens and we blow an entire day not at the park mid-trip, we can always do a short park visit on the last day).
good looking out for us, thanks :)

Also, if you are worried about navigating Disney property, DTD is on the main drag down there. The road DTD is on is the same one you enter the property on. You can also access CBR, CSR, Pop, and Typhoon Lagoon right from that road. I believe the All Star resorts are just off that drive as well.

Look here.

The All Stars resorts and DTD are all accessible from Buena Vista Drive. Going to be super easy to get there.

NP!

It's a lot easier to get around down there than most think!

We much prefer to drive around the World!

By your choice of words, you make it sound like a much farther walk than it really is. You DON'T have to walk "the entire length of DTD" to get from the bus stop to T-Rex Cafe ... you have to walk the entire length of DTD MARKETPLACE. There's a big difference between walking the entire length of Downtown Disney (which consists of Marketplace, the former Pleasure Island, and Westside) and walking the entire length of one-third of Downtown Disney.

Personally, I wouldn't drive in order to avoid THAT walk. And actually, depending on where you are able to get a parking spot, your walk from your parking spot to T-Rex might be about a quarter to a third of the distance from the bus stop to T-Rex.
