Can I use half of ME?

Hi everyone,
I'm interested in getting a town car to go from airport to hotel. Can I still do the ME luggage transfer, even though I won't be using their shuttle?

No, it appears that Disney scans your ME boarding pass as you board the bus. If you don't board the bus they are saying they won't get your luggage.

I'm far from being a "business person," but I assume Disney is doing DME in order to get more money from you. If you RIDE DME, you're not spending money on a towncar or a rental car, and thus you'll have more money to spend on Disney property. They don't want to "give away" the cool luggage transfer thing but not get more of your money in return, KWIM?

I think even more than the towncars they'd love to target rental cars for extinction. A rental car makes it easier for you to get off-property for meals, shopping, and other fun attractions. If you're getting off-property easily, you're spending money that Disney is not getting, and they want your money. If they can entice you with DME and prevent you from renting a car, when it's 7:00 p.m. and you're hungry, you're going to eat wherever you are (resort or theme park) rather than jumping in your rental car (which you didn;t get since you took DME) to have dinner somewhere else.

I don't at all mean for this to sound like a bad thing. Businesses are in business to make money, and I don't see any non-profit theme parks and resorts out there.
