Looking to put a napping sign on our resort room door now and again, are the resort doors metal?
Would that work?

Where are you staying? DVC resorts don't allow stuff on the doors. Many of the doors already have some sort of decoration on the door. Not all are metal.

You will have a hang tag to put on the knob if the room is occupied. But you'll want to throw the latch if you are napping or just in the room.

We are staying at the Poly, just a regular room, no DVC. I want to make sure they don't do the room check while the kiddos are resting. And knocking and trying to open a door with the thrown latch will be loud enough to wake them up.

Oh, they will do room checks while your children are sleeping if they haven't already cleaned the room while you were out during the morning hours. They will ignore any homemade signs. Put the sign from your room on the door knob. You could ask Housekeeping to clean your room as early as possible. Or as late as possible.

Well dang..... I had read that some people spoke to Mousekeeping and gave them specific times so they wouldn't be disturbed. And that if they knocked and you said "please come back later" they would. So I just assumed it would be the easiest to answer them with a sign that said "napping, please come check on us at _______".

You can do that for sure. Just be aware, it MAY not work. There have been many reports of them honoring the request and just as many as them not. So just go in with the right expectations.

Of course! Yes! Thank you.
Do you happen to know if the doors are metal though? Would a magnet work?

They will ignore any sign you post on your door. Just use the hangtag.

The real purpose of the daily room checks is to surprise you so that they can catch anyone trying to do something illegal in the room, like having weapons or illegal sex trade. If they allow you to schedule their visit, it pretty much defeats the purpose of the check.

Just to add to others info, the Poly doors are not metal, they are wood.

The resort provides you with a "Room Occupied" sign to hang which serves the same purpose. When the "Room Occupied" sign is out, they may choose to come back later when its gone or they may choose to knock regardless. The same is true for any homemade sign someone puts out.

When we stayed at POR last September, they always called us in the room to schedule the visit. We would let them know when we were leaving and they did the checks then:scratchin

They'll knock no matter what is on door. Just the way it is. You'll just have to say..we are sleeping or let them look in a be done with it...thats up to you.

100% correct.
note; If we happen to be there which is rare....I just let them look in..who cares.

I asked what they were looking for. She replied poison apples.

We've stayed at the Poly 5 times and they have always cleaned our room in the morning. Barring no major unforeseen circumstances, you should be fine to nap in the afternoon after the room has been made up in he morning.
