In '05 I bought Univ. tix thru FAN discount, then upgraded one of them @ the park gate before 1st used in order to obtain a PAP discount @ HRH that came out long after I booked the initial ressie.

Got a couple Qs:

1) Does anyone know if they still make the accommodation as to upgrading UNUSED vouchers/tix? I had the original tix & my CC receipt/site print out in-hand to verify much I paid for the tixs, etc.

2) Read thru the current deal (as described below) & didn't see a date that the tix must be activated by (rather unusual IMO) anyone know?? I don't need them until next June.

Just wonder if I should jump on the current advance purchase deal on the Univ website...(correct me if I'm wrong as to details please!):

Vouchers to be redeemed @ gate,

$85 pp,

good for 7 consec. days

The $85 deal is only available online. You can only upgrade tickets at the park. So the only tickets you can upgrade to are the ones sold at the park (not online) such as an annual pass. My advice would be to upgrade to the Power Pass if the blackout dates aren't a problem for you.

I'm very blonde today:headache: , one more time...s-l-o-w-l-y please.

Q: Can I upgrade the $85 deal that I'd purchase today towards a PAP next June?

Unfortunately, my dates preclude a Power Pass - natch lol.

Unless there's a great PAP rate @ hotels, I cannot justify the cost since I probably will only be utilizing it for 4 days.

I guess my concern is most of the tix deals have fine print that they must be activated by a certain date. I didn't see this on the new early-bird deal.

Yes, you can. When you get to the parks take your tickets to guest services and you can upgrade that to an annual pass.

You cannot upgrade a voucher so you must get your $85 tickets first. Once you have them in your hand, you can take them to GS to upgrade.

phamton,

Didn't your first post say that you can't upgrade the online deal? I'm going the same time as the OP so was watching for responses.

keishashadow,

The tickets do not have an activation date or deadline. I have also been wondering if the AP rate would save us anything if we have to pay $100 extra for the AP - we are also there for 4 night using the AAA rate (PBH).

My first post referred to upgrading to the online special. I thought the OP had an old ticket that she wanted to upgrade to the $85 special. You can't upgrade to an online ticket as they can only be purchased online not at the gates.

If you have an online ticket already, you can upgrade that to anything that is sold at the park once you arrive. Does that make sense?

phantom - gotcha, thanks.

Another Q, last summer the AAA office in FL had a special on APs where you could buy them online, activate them by Sept. & they were good for 2 years for the standard 1 year PAP rate (sortof had to do it with mirrors but, out of state could fudge it as long as you picked them up in person-verified by their office staff). Any predictions/reflections as to whether this will be an annual deal?

Letsbegoofy (great screen name btw), the deal I got in Feb '05 (over valentines/pres day holiday week) w/a PAP saved us around $200, even after factoring in the additional cost of 1 PAP. We took advantage of the discounts they offered on dining & souvenieers in the park too. The Loews reservationist even offered us a free night (gasp!) but, we were locked into DVC accommodations. Don't think that deal crops up often.

Not sure as to whether an AP gets the hotel discounts or just the PAP?

Totally - thanks for clearing that up! Now I just need to wait until AP rates come out.

I'm no Universal expert, but I think only the PAP does. I think they are $179 plus tax; making one almost $100 more than the $85 ticket that I already purchased. So, I need to save over $25/night on my room for it to pay off...wow, I'm overthinking! Now I'm going to have to search through threads to find out what the usual AP rate is for late June (or maybe Universal doesn't have a usual?)

Last year for last week in June I couldn't get a standard room ressie for the weekend several months out, AP/AAA/rack.

We'll be there from Tuesday 6/26 through Saturday 6/30. I wonder if there will be AP rates during the wek?? I already have a AAA rate on a standard room.

We'll be there starting Thursday (6/28) for 3 nights. Working on possibly coming in Wednesday, depending on juggling of DVC points earlier in trip.

Honestly, can't remember...too bad there isn't more attention paid to these properties as to historical rate charts, etc. ala the info you can find for WDW. Not sure how long the threads are archived, if I get a chance later, may poke around & see if I can dredge something up.

BTW, someone told me their AAA agent offered them some "gimmies" when they had "Universal" month this year, January I believe. She didn't know whether she had a room only or a pkg (d'oh). Guess we'll find out when the next newsletter arrives.

Now, if i can only figure out how the meal deal/dining tix work, if they'll even still be offered lol.
