Can I upgrade from studio to 1 bedroom when I get there?

I've rented points from a fabulous DISer and I'm very excited to be staying in a DVC property for the first time. I've rented enough points for a studio but part of me still thinks I might prefer the one bedroom (it's our honeymoon, might want that jacuzzi tub).

When I go to check-in, would I be able to pay cash for an upgrade even though I'm staying on points? (assuming there was a 1 bedroom available). Has anyone been offered a better deal for doing it this way?

Very unlikely. Contact the person you're renting from and see if you can change to a 1 BR and pay the difference there. If not, consider changing to less days for a 1 BR and then paying cash for the additional days. Good luck.

The studios are plenty big for 2 people. THey are bigger than a regular hotel room. THe jucuzzi tub is nice, but for the extra $$$ if that's all you want, you might consider taking the extra you would pay for the 1 bedroom and head over to the Grand Floridian for a Span Day!!! We did that on our
honeymoon. You might also consider paying the extra $25 a day for maid service.

Which resort are you staying at???? I think all the DVC resorts have a jaccuzzi's pool side.

I rad in my membershio book that there is a "room change" fee for changing rooms once you get there when you are staying on points.

Being that it is a timeshare, it is not like a regular hotel stay. There are no "upgrades". It is a point transaction- x # of points for x size room. Occasionaly they will move you from a standard view to a preferred view(at BWV only), that is the extent of the "upgrade" they will do. There is no way to mix points and cash for the same night. As suggested, you can ask the member to see if a one BR is available and rent more points to cover it or use the points for the nights they would cover and pay cash for the extra nights. You also don't mention when you are travelling- DVC units are heavily booked and there may not even be a one bedroom to switch to at this point. As far as a change fee- that applies if you check into a room and for some reason decide to switch rooms after checking in.

At this moment I am staying at the OKW resort because it is the owner's home. However I will know by next week if I can be moved to the BWV for my honeymoon Oct 12-20.

I've never seen any of the DVC properties and I'm sure I'll be thrilled with a studio. I'm just not sure I can justify spending twice as much for a 1 bedroom . . . not sure how much I'll be in the room. In the past I've always traveled with my best girl friend and we took the park commando style. But with a new husband who isn't a Disney fan . . . maybe more time in the room? It's hard to say.

Thank you for all the advice though!
