Can I upgrade a room purchased with DVC points?

My good friend is bringing myself and my daughter on our second trip to WDW (in as many years) using her DVC points. I'd love to surprise her with an upgrade to concierge level. Can this be done paying cash or would it have to be with DVC points?

TIA

Need to do it with points. Rooms available using cash are not part of the DVC inventory.

There aren't really concierge rooms through DVC (there are a few, they are only at VAKL and they are nearly impossible to book - and you'd have to book with points).

As PP mentioned...only CL is at AKL, and they are almost impossible to book (always booked months and months out). You can always ask to speak to a manager and see what they can do, but that would require a tanker truck worth of pixie dust ; )

There are concierge rooms available for Disney hotels through the Disney Collection. You would have to use points and it is usually not a good value. Rather than upgrading, take her to a nice dinner.

Over the years, posters (members) have asked the front desk about concierge lounge access. Some have state that lounge access was available for a fee, but the fees quoted were usually in the neighborhood of $50-60 per person, per day. And at most resorts, the concierge lounges are located nowhere near the DVC villas. You're not only paying an exorbitant fee but also having to walk quite a distance to a reach the lounge.

I'll add that at Animal Kingdom Villas, the POS strictly limits concierge lounge access to only guests booked in the Concierge Villas. And there are only 5 concierge villas.

For the rates quoted above, IMO you're better of buying one of the Disney Dining Plans for everyone. Or just pay for a couple nice meals.

I wonder if you would get daily housekeeping in this scenario.

Thanks for the replies everyone! We are staying at AKL, but wow I did not realize there were only 5 there! I already have planned the Pirates and Pals Cruise for us, and will probably pick up one of our meals. Thanks again for the feedback.
