My husband has a magic band he has never used but it is registered in his name. Can we transfer it to someone else?

No. Once it’s been registered to someone, it will always be registered to that person - it’s essentially used at that point. The only way you can give away a MB is if it’s one you purchased online or in the parks that has never been assigned to someone.

I've done it once, but it took a call to DIsney IT to do it... as long as it has NOT been used for park admittance and you assigned it to the wrong person in your planning group by mistake, call Disney IT and they may be able to reassign it (at least they did for me), but that was 6 years ago so unknown if still possible but worth a try -- good luck.

As pp noted, the only time I've read of someone being able to do that was a wrongly assigned band that had not been used by anyone, and then had to do it through Disney IT.

This is one of those YMMV things. The official policy is that, once a Band is linked to a person in a My Disney Experience account, it can't be transferred to another person. In practice, though, Disney is sometimes able to reassign a Band. Call 407-939-4357.

Honest question, why would it matter if it’s been used? There’s nothing actually “on” the band…it just accesses a person’s MDE. The magic band doesn’t change by being used.

My guess is why would they want to transfer a band, when they can sell a new one?

My guess is they don't want people to try to game the park ticket system by sharing the same Magic Band. If you could transfer who it belonged to, you could buy one park ticket, go in the morning and then 'share' that with someone else in your party who would go in the afternoon.

If it was never linked or used, I could see them allowing a one-time transfer to the correct person.

No because the ticket wouldn’t be on the band, it’d be on the MDE profile. If you transferred the band, the tickets wouldn’t follow.
