After seeing the thread about not packing food in checked bags, I wanted to make sure that I've got it right! Can I pack food/snacks in one of our carry-ons? I don't plan on taking beverages/bottles-are there any foods that might not fare well on the plane?

TIA

I've always packed snacks for the kids in my carry on with no problems.

As long as the luggage is within the size limits for the plane and you are within the limit for carry on, there should not be a problem. Any food that you would feel safe taking in the car should be fine on the plane.
BTW, there is no ban on checked luggage with food in it. Check with your airline to be 100% sure.

When flying in the past (pre 9/11) I was always asked to take a drink or bite out of any opened containers/packaging at the screening area...

We are flying Jet Blue and they strongly suggest bringing your own snacks and drinks b/c they do not serve any food or drinks. (Just don't put it in your shoes)

We just came back from WDW and brought a few snacks in our checked luggage. I noticed it was searched but did not have a problem with them searching my checked luggage. They inserted a letter saying they searched my bag. I also had a toaster in that bag!

We just flew Northwest out of Minneapolis earlier this month.

We brought our own water/pop on board and a few treats. No problems at all.

In fact, I saw most people around us had brought food of some sort on board.

I always carry some water on board just incase we get sutck sitting for awhile (which has happend to me several times).

It is very dry in those cabins.

Am I reading this correctly? You are asking about bringing food in your carry on for your trip right? Not to snack on the plane.
I am assuming that because you mentioned not packing in your checked luggage. Please let me know if I am reading this correctly. You have received a lot of anecdotes about snaking on the plane but no real direct answers to what I think your question is. :)

Gail,

You're right, I want to bring cereal, snacks, etc, in carry-ons, for the trip! I'm not too concerned about snacking on the plane, it's only a 2 hour trip, but want to make grocery stop as short as possible once we arrive.

What do you all think?

I'm curious, too, about the food issue. I didn't check the airline rules, but I went shopping yesterday for our trip next week and I bought enough to fill one whole carry on bag! Just munchies and cereal and peanut butter. All is packaged, and none are drinks, I guess I just assumed they wouldn't say anything!

Like I said before, if you are within the size limit and the number of carry on limit, there should not be a problem. Just an FYI, I plan to pack Dee's cereal (he is picky about it and we simply cannot find his "nuts and twigs" in Orlando), some SOS, Tide, Fabric Softner sheets, microwave bacon rack and possibly some other nifty little items and since I am totally against being a pack mule on any trip :) , I will be putting these items in my checked luggage. There was some chatter about things like chocolate setting off the "alarms", but, since it is not forbidden, I plan to just give it a try.

All is packaged, and none are drinks, I guess I just assumed they wouldn't say anything!

I doubt they will say anything carry on or checked.
