Can I switch to a regular room at check-in?

We are staying at POP in October and have booked 3 rooms for our party. We all wanted standard rooms but thre were only 2 available so we had to book one as a preferred room. They explained that we'd be in seperate buildings-- yuck! We had no choice but to pay extra and take the very last room available but we really just want to be all together. Can we switch down to all standard? Will they give the difference ($134!) back? What if we can all fit in the preferred building? Would they move us so that we can be together or would we have to pay for that too? Thanks!
