I am very upset with Mark Webb who sold us 200pts when there was a great 15% offer less then a week out....and he didnt even call us about it!!!!!! I do NOT want to deal with this man any longer and I am sorry that I sat with him in the first place. My boyfriend wants to sell back the DVC and I just cant have that. So I figure I will have another consultant try to fix this mess of a contract before my bf sells it back!

Has anyone ever switched consultants before?

Is there a contact in the Corporate offices I cann call about this mess?!

Thanks in advance

All you have to do to change your guide is call Member Services and make a request. They'll take care of it right away. :)

Is it possible that your guide was not aware of the incentive? I have heard they often don't get much advance notice on some things. Have you made an attempt to contact him to and see if he could help you?

DVC Guides are salespeople. Have you asked your guide about the incentive offer? If you are unhappy, I would suggest asking for a manger in that case to see what your options are. Simply asking for another salesperson may not be helpful in this case.

Good luck!

Have you passed papers yet? If not maybe you can get the 15% still, I'm not sure. My guide is Byron Helgeson and he's fantastic!!!

As stated, DVC Guides rarely know about new promotional offers until they are active. This is likely done to avoid the very stuation you are complaining about: "psst...wait two weeks to buy and you'll get a better deal. But you didn't hear that from me."

My boyfriend wants to sell back the DVC and I just cant have that.

Well, you might want to calm him down by pointing out that he's going to lose several thousand dollars by trying to sell now. As I pointed out in another thread, unless you are still within the 14-day period in which you can rescind your agreement to buy, the contract is yours. DVC does not buy-back contracts directly.

You could look to sell on the resale market. Points at SSR now are going for about $80 via resale, and unless you find a buyer yourself and handle all of the contractual arrangements, you will pay about 12% commission on the sale. Assuming you paid $90 per point, you'll be forfeiting about $20 pp to sell now.

ETA: If the closing hasn't occurred yet, DVC may still let you cancel the contract. But they will absolutely charge you a fee to cover their expenses thus far.

So I figure I will have another consultant try to fix this mess of a contract before my bf sells it back!

IMHO, you would have gotten the same service from another other salesperson. In fact (and I'm just guessing here), I wouldn't be surprised if DVC had procedures in place to discipline your Guide if he had called you and informed you of the lower price. You had already agreed to buy at one price. I can't imagine DVC would openly advocate him calling you and encouraging you to change the contract to terms that would cost them hundreds or thousands of dollars.

If you had bought a car a month ago, would you expect the dealership to call and tell you that new incentives now have a net price $500 lower, and offer you a refund?

If you had bought a big-screen TV last week, do you think Best Buy would call and offer you a refund when it goes on sale this week?

Sorry for sounding like the voice of doom and gloom. More than anything, I think your anger with Mark is misplaced. He isn't my Guide and I don't know him from Adam. But unless you had other issues arise during your sale process, I think you'd be better off contacting Mark to see if there is anything he can do to aid you in this situation. You might get further by using him as your friend and ally rather than dismissing him as the enemy.

I sympathize with you. The offer for free annual passes for four family members would have been great. We called and said "hey, we just missed it" type of thing. But they couldn't help. However, DVC is great and for your $1000 difference is probably is not worth selling and re buying the points.

Although I agree that outside of the recission period allowed on real estate transactions, when - you bought you bought, I think that any retail establishment makes great allowences in post sale adjustments when people ask.

No, they don't go through the last 10 days of sales and call up every customer, but any department store I have gone to openly tells customers that if an item goes on sale in the next week to 10 days they will happily refund the difference. I have also been on line in grocery / retail establishments and seen people bring in coupons that they have gotten in the mail that are not effective yet, but were honored at the register (with a managers approval) rather than asking the customer to come back.

My suggestion is to speak to a manger and ASK (nicely of course). The worst they can say is no, the best is yes, and the outcome in either case is you having the satisfaction of knowing you have done all that you could do.

I don't disagree with that.

But note that the focus of the initial post was directing comments toward the Guide like "do NOT want to deal with this man any longer" and "sorry that I sat with him in the first place."

Seems a bit harsh to me.

Also, if I follow the timeline correctly, it's been more like 5-6 weeks since OP agreed to buy. I absolutely think it's worth inquiring--DVC may well be gracious enough to agree. But they are under no obligation to do so, and no amount of screaming and/or corporate ladder-climbing will make a difference if they aren't inclined to make such a contractual change so long after-the-fact.

i know you feel bad but you signed the contract. its been over 15 days so you cannot back out. sometimes in life you think your getting a good deal but really you are not. early sep 2001 i thought i had great financing on my car at a low of 2.9 percent than sep 11 happened financing on that make went to 0 percent who would of known that if i would of wait a week i could of saved more than 1000 dollars.
your guide might not of even known about the deal until it came out on oct 10. even if he did known about that deal say a week ahead of time do you think he will tell everyone so he gets no sales that week. sorry i dont think there is much you can do

We purchased about a month before the special came out. Because of financing problems, we didn't even sign our papers for awhile. We heard about the special and called our guide. He avoided us and tried to give us the run around for awhile. After being ignored for a week or so, we called member services, and they got right on it. They sent us out new paperwork with the special deal.

Don't be mad at your guide. When we thought all along our guide was ignoring us, he was actually having a family emergency. So, cut him a little slack, and call member services.

thanks for your replies...!!!

please understand that there are other issues that I chose not to disclose. This was just the straw that broke the camels back. I have already sought out advice from another guide who has been more then helpful.

I dont really care at this point if I get the 15% or not, it was the way it was handled that has upset me. and yes when i hear that other guides informed prospective buyers that if something else popped up before the closing they would call them....it upsets me that while i was still on property vacationing that i didnt receive a call.

I checked in w/ him the day we left and he didnt say a word...i also called 3 times when we got home to check on the credit approval and again he didnt say a word....all of the times i contacted him i was still in that grace period where we could have switched to the 15% deal and it was not done, it has also been confirmed by another guide that the promotion was in effect all of the times i called him....then i got a letter in my mailbox for an invitation to join DVC at 15% off....? this was 3 weeks after we signed....talk about adding salt to the wound!!!

anyways....i am still a very proud owner at ssr just got off on the wrong foot!

I understand that i came off very irate at my guide and for that I apologize. Its just very frustrating because he is on vacation so i cannot speak to him and everytime i call member services l get a different story or excuse!

I realize that all I can do at this point is suck it up and deal, but again please keep in mind that there are other issues backing up my decision to switch guides. other then that, I am ok at this point w/ whatever the outcome may be as I feel the guide that is helping me now is giving me the Disney treatment we all love.

Thanks Guys!

Glad you feel better about it - I know first-time ownership can be exciting and frustrating if all doesn't go according to plan!! You'll have many wonderful years of ownership to enjoy - get a new guide (although if you don't purchase anything in the future the guide will just be a name on a mailing to you) and don't look back!!!!
