Can I Survive another 11 days in WDW w/ Disney-Resistant Husband? *11/25 SURPRISE!!**

OOOOOOOOOO, I love Lilly and cake, prefer the Grand Marnier slushie, but hey, I'll have a Grey Goose! What a fun start to your special weekend!!!:cool1:

I am loving your evening! Not the oversleeping or the tippy sippy cup..or the lost drivers license but oh, what a wonderful night from check in on.

Great cake, that was very sweet of Carrie and a nice job by cake man bri!

Wow!!!!! What an awesome start to your Destination D trip. Very, very cool. I would love to meet Carrie. I so love her TR's. They are amazing and so addictive.

Also - congrats to Chris for his amazing time. I have this theory that some people are just genetically wired to run and the lucky ones discover it and put it to good use.

It was a great first nite in WDW, but the best was still to come!!!:goodvibes

I completely agree with you about running...some people are born to do it. Others (like me) just aren't.:rotfl:

What a fun evening!
Love the cake!

Thanks!:)

I'm sorry your trip started off with a few snags. But seriously, what a magical way to end your evening! :) How perfect!

Once I hit property, the 1st nite went great! Excellent way to kick-start the trip!:)

Am glad you made it in time and wow at all the drama of the day (esp the kid ruining your clothes!)

Was glad to read that your day improved and love the surprise cake.

Thanks! Yes, I was glad to put all the false-starts and mishaps of the day behind me once I hit DW property!:goodvibes

Sorry to hear that the day got off to a slightly rough start, but in the end, it turned out to be quite perfect. And that's really all that matters, right? That things work out when you are actually at Disney? :goodvibes Sounds like a fantastic evening.

You are right! Sunshine and sunny skies all the way from check-in onwards!:)

Hi Trish!!!!
Loved hearing about your route to get to Destination D. I remember the story of the sippy cup spill from our dinner that night. It was so great meeting you that night & spending the weekend together at Destination D. I was really glad that I was able to snag that 5:30 CG ressie for 6 people. :teeth:
Great pics of your cake. I remember you & Carrie talking about skipping dessert so you could enjoy it.
I wish Eric & I had annual passes because I would have loved to go to Epcot with you guys & watch Illuminations! Sounded perfect!

Hey Melanie! So glad you joined me here! :welcome:

Not sure if Carrie told you or not, but we actually had an ADR at CG that nite as well...but gladly cancelled it when you were able to extend our reservation to 6. It ended up being so nice to share a meal together before the weekend's festivities got started the next day!

Although we headed back to the room to admire the cake, we actually didn't dig into it until the next evening. Epcot was waiting!

It was too bad you and Eric didn't have passes....it was EMH's at Epcot that nite as well. Too tempting for me to resist!;)

OOOOOOOOOO, I love Lilly and cake, prefer the Grand Marnier slushie, but hey, I'll have a Grey Goose! What a fun start to your special weekend!!!:cool1:

I haven't yet tried the Grand Marnier, so that is high on the list for October!:)

Sounds like a great evening! I'm so jealous!!! :thumbsup2

It was really fun!:)

It was really sweet of Carrie to plan out that cake. And it tasted delicious!!!

Looking forward to hearing more about your destination D trip, I'm already in awe that you can have a business meeting in Toronto (my favourite city in the world) and then decide to add on Disney! I always thought I might move to America or Canada at some point but as DBF has a owns some land here and feels stongly abouit passing it down through future generations looks like I'll be planning vacations over the pond instead...

and also if you have questions about northern Ireland, or anything at all I'd be glad to assist, I love all holiday planning! DBF's workmates are going to Canada this summer and I really want to email and offer some info about niagra on the lake etc but don't want to seem too in their face!

Yipppeee you finally had a Grey Goose Slushie....I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I think they are pure heaven in a martini glass:lovestruc

Sounds like a great start to your trip!

Signing up! Loved everything so far.
The OKW looks fabulous and I am sure you will have a wonderful time! :)
Congratulations on the running achievements of your husband!! Man.... I wish I had the motivation.

Very excited to hear about the rest of your trip. I was there that same week but did not take part in any of the events.

Have a great week!

So glad your Friday the 13th got better! What an exhausting travel day with all that extra stress! :headache: Disney does make everything better, doesn't it? As soon as you arrive on property-things are smooth and magical. Love it! :cutie:

Looking forward to hearing more about that trip!!

I just read your post on Chris' latest 1/2 marathon time - UNREAL! Wow! A big congrats to him!!!!

That is funny that Toronto is your favourite city! It tends to get a lot of flack from the rest of Canada, but I quite enjoy visiting it as well, and have a ton of friends and family who call it home.

We will definitely be getting back to explore Ireland more in the next few years, and there is nothing like getting the lay of the land from a local. Shortly after we were married Chris & I toured Dublin, across to Galway, and then circled counterclockwise across southern Ireland, back to Dublin, but have never visited Northern Ireland. I will definitely drop you a line once we get a visit scheduled.;)

They are yummy, but tend to go down far to easy, no?:rotfl:

I somehow missed that you were in WDW at the same time as Destination D. Too bad you weren't able to attend, although it certainly wld have been hard with the family there. Unfortunately they did not sell individual tickets for the evening events, so that would have made it very pricey to have just come to the Richard Sherman event. (Although many felt this in and of itself was worth the price of admission!)

It is so amazing how the stress and exhaustion is gone the minute your vacation starts when you pull up to the resort, isn't it?;)

Promise of an Update...

Sorry for the lack of updates recently...I have been distracted by a number of things...both good and bad.

On the not-so-good side, we have had a number of tragic events hit people near and dear to us. It has been another great reminder to me how lucky we are to have each and every day with those we love.

I have also been busy with all of the usual transitions with the kids from spring to summer, the winding down of the school year, and the start of all the summer activities. And the kids' birthday parties.

For the last 8 years, one of my favourite past-times this time of year is the planning and organizing of the kids' birthday parties. I get a real kick each year in planning the parties, from choosing the themes, making the invitations, and planning, buying and making all of the party decor and food. However, this year I felt I needed a break. So, for Katie's Party this year, we had a movie party and attended Disney's African Cats.

african_cats_MPL.jpg

It was great. The kids loved it, and I got a year off.

This coming Sunday, we will also be having a Birthday movie party for Declan where we will be seeing Cars 2!!!:yay: I can't wait!!!!

cars_2_MPL.jpg

While it has been great having a year off from all the party planning, I am already thinking about themes for next year....

The other thing which has been preoccupying me as of late is the dilemma of DVC...should I or shouldn't I. I have gone back and forth on this many times, and ultimately always decided that DVC wasn't for me. However, all of the rock bottom prices on resales lately got me thinking. And thinking. And thinking....

After doing a ton of research (and spending my time hanging out on the DVC boards as opposed to the trip reporting threads), I started to come to the conclusion that DVC really was for me.

My initial fear was that I didn't want to lock myself into a mandatory Disney vacation each and every year indefinitely. But with the banking and borrowing rules, you can actually structure your points such that you only need to travel to WDW once every 3 years. (And let's face it...given that I have been going 2-3 times a year for the last 5 years, I could ease up on my Disney vacationing BIG TIME and still be fine).

Plus, if it really got to the point that I couldn't or didn't want to use my points, I could always transfer them to another member, or rent them out. ;)

Then I started to consider what we will be doing for vacations over the next few years. At this point, we have tentatively scheduled a California vacation for sometime in 2012, after Carsland opens. Our tentative plan would be to stay 2 days in San Diego, 2 days in LA, 3-4 days at Disney, and 2 days in Big Sur. Bingo! We would be using a ton of points at the Grand Californian Villas in 2012.

In 2013 our plans are to do our 1st Disney cruise in either May, Oct, Nov or December, hopefully coinciding with a podcast cruise or one hosted by Lou Mongello or All Ears. I also expect that we will likely precede the cruise by 2 days at the Parks to check out the new Fantasyland expansion, followed by another 4 days on the Beach. Ding, ding! There goes even more points at both WDW and Vero Beach! (Check out VB's Mickey head pool!!!)

verobeachpool.jpg

Then, by the time our budget recovers from our trips in 2012 and 2013, I would hope to travel to Hawaii in 2014 or 2015 to check out Aulani. Based on the current points chart, to stay for one week in a 1 bedroom with an ocean view would use up 2-3 years worth of points.

After all that, by 2015 or 2016 I figure a splurge trip to the new Grand Floridian Villas will be in order.:cloud9:
I am not going to lie....I fell in love with the Grand last month, and once the news broke that the GF will be the next DVC property, I officially decided I wanted into DVC.

19158_1_b.jpg

So basically, within the next 6-7 years I see no problem whatsoever with using up all of our points. (And if for whatever reason something comes up that we can't travel, we can always rent them out.) I have done the math countless times and figure that within 7-9 years, the amount we would have spent paying cash to stay at Disney on discounted room bookings (or even renting points from other DVC members, with all of the risks that involves), will have effectively paid for our DVC contract, even including all of the annual costs and dues.

By that point, it became a complete no-brainer....

(Continued next post)

(Continued from last post)

Once the concept of DVC made sense, I then had to consider where to buy, and ultimately decided upon SSR for the following reasons:

(1) longer contract duration over BC, BW, WL or OWK;

(2) cheaper purchase price per point as opposed to BC or BLT, both of which would otherwise have been my 1st choices;

(3) cheapest annual DVC dues in WDW;

(4) the best looking DVC rooms on property (in my humble opinion); and

(5) the ability to secure an 11 month booking window for the Treehouses, which are incredibly hard to book on DVC points unless you have the 11 month booking window. I really want to stay in a Treehouse someday, so this gave another extra edge to SSR.

The final details and paperwork still has to be done, but I hope to arrive on property in 3 months time when the expression "Welcome Home" will finally mean something!

Oh, and did I mention how much my family loves horses???? Meant to be, right???:rotfl:

Sorry once again for the lack of updating. I will be making it up very shortly with a big update over the weekend, posting the rest of the details from my trip last month for Destination D. I have about 1/2 of it written up now, and will be finishing the rest by the weekend and posting it all at once. :)

Then, after that is done, I expect to be more regular in updating on the final planning, preparations and countdown to our trip...a little more than 3 months away! Yay!!!:yay:

Congratulations on your DVC decision Trish, that's awesome! :yay:

I'm in love the photos that I've seen for Aluani! There is a new online training class for it in the Disney Learning Connection that I'm planning on doing tomorrow - can't wait to learn all the ins and outs of that resort. We're taking the boys out in the next couple of years and I've already warned Don that that is where I want to stay for our O'ahu part of the trip :thumbsup2

great decision Trish. If I didn't live so far away from Disney, I would have signed up for DVC years ago!

Congrats on DVC, Trish!! It does seem to really make sense for your family-- SSR is a gorgeous resort! Good decision!

VERY exciting!!!! And makes complete sense for you

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on buying into DVC!!!

Love all your holiday plans for the next few years - can I tag along too?! :rotfl:

Hi! Just joining in now! I have a lot to comment on, so I probably will miss something lol First of all, you have a beautiful family :goodvibes I love the pictures you posted right at the start of your PTR.

I would also like to say hello from a fellow Canadian, who has no Disney stores near her lol Over the last few years, all of the ones within an hour or so of me have been closed :(

I also am a huge fan of the GF, and when I heard they were putting in villas, I said "Well now I HAVE to buy into DVC" haha There really is no other option for me.

Finally, I would like to say that I understand what it is like to live with a Disney resistant husband. He tells me that he doesn't hate it there, he enjoyed himself, but he is not a Disney freak like me and there are other places he would like to travel to. I told him we could go to Disney's new resort in Hawaii, or DL in California instead of always WDW haha

Anyways, I'm enjoying your PTR and I look forward to reading more!

CONGRATS on your DVC!!! We've been going back and forth for years. I definitely think we're good candidates, although we may wait until we can buy GF. Tom keeps commenting on the great discounts that we always get. Which is true but even with the discounts there is still inflation. Hmmm...
I think we are living somewhat parallel lives. We're thinking about a Southern Cal trip in February, 2012. And we're going on Podcast Cruise 3.0 in one year....
