DH and I want to book a cruise for 2006, but have already used up this year and next years points. As of June 2005 I can borrow the next years, but I would rather rent them, then pay for the cruise out of pocket. If I can't, should I try and book a vacation and sell that?? Thanks for your help.

Yes you can rent borrowed points out we did this without any problems for our cruise.

I would certainly not borrow them unless I had a rental lined up. If you can wait until you are renting out current year points (11 months prior to the use year when the points are), I would certainly wait.

When working with borrowed points, if your renter backs out, you are left with points that must be rented NOW. There is certainly more stress involved, especially if you are working with someone who wanted your points at the end of your use year. I agree with Dean's advice to wait until you are within your current use year before renting those points out.

Keep in mind you cannot transfer borrowed points.

You are not actually renting points. You are renting a reservation that you make using your points. The points will remain in your account.

You can only borrow points at the time they are needed to actually make a reservation. You cannot borrow ahead.

I understand that they can not be transferred. Thank you for your advice about waiting. We got an unbelievable deal on a cruise, but now it makes sense to wait. I think I won't have a problem renting out the points, but I would have to try and find someone who needs them as close after June as possible. Thanks again for all your advice!
