Can I make ressies at one place while "holding" at another?

Is it possible to make reservations at one resort and be on a waiting list for another at the same time?

Ultimately I would like a 2 bedroom BWV either 12/1-12/8 or 12/7-12/14. I just called MS and there is nothing available during this time. But there is availability at OKW. Could I make ressies at OKW and still be put on a waiting list for BWV? If BWV comes thru, would I just be able to transfer the reservation? I would call MS back, but I was on hold for 20 minutes, and figured I would get a faster answer here, lol.

Thanks for any info.

Kelly

Yes. I have done this before.

Just make sure that MS notes that you wish for the OKW reservation to be cancelled concurrently with the booking of your BWV and that they need to use the points at OKW to make this reservation.

You've gotten the answer however there's more to it. To do this right, you either need to be willing to change from one resort to another or have enough points in a situation to have both reservations until you're done and have everything set then cancel what you don't want. Remember you have 2 ways to do a wait list. You can either wait list for the entire reservation or you can wait list day by day. For those that don't have enough points to float both reservations may want to do the wait list for the entire time. The better chance of getting what you want is to wait list day by day. Of course your use year and banking windows come into play in this situation.

You have to have enough points to make both reservations for the same week? I thought they would just switch you over if the availability comes thru, because they know you're not going to be staying 2 places the same week...

Lynda, you're right if one chooses to waitlist for an entire reservation. However, if you waitlist day by day, then it's a different story.

Let's say that you book a 7 day stay at BWV and waitlist, day by day, for 7 days at OKW. If one or two of your OKW days become available, you have to use points to hold them while still retaining your 7 day BWV booking; you probably wouldn't want to give up your BWV reservation unless most of your waitlist days come through. :)

So if you reserve 7 days at BWV and wait list at OKW, and just Tues. and Thurs. become abailable, you reserve those also with points... If that takes all your points you decide which place you'd rather be on Tues. and Thurs. and cancel the other place for those two nights?

Correct, but who wants to vacation at OKW on Tues and Thurs and spend the rest of the week at BWV???;) ;) ;) ;) If one DOESN'T have enough points to carry the initial reservation as well as "waitlist" days that individually come up, I would just try to waitlist for the whole week and take your chances....

We haven't even closed yet, and I can see already we didn't buy enough points!!!

Lynda, I wouldn't worry about additional points to cover "waitlist" contingencies. If you use the 11 month window at your home resort, you'll have no difficulty. We've only waitlisted at BWV when we booked at 9 or 10 months out and found that the standard views had "vanished". In most instances, we booked for the preferred but were able to later exchange for standard days as they became available on the waitlist.

It's easy to get "point hungry" around here:) :) :) . Don't forget that the REAL cost of DVC isn't in the initial outlay.........it's in the DUES over 40 years. We pay around $1200/year in dues........that's $48,000 over the next 40 years.

Good Luck,

Just a reminder to also watch your points between the initial ressie and the wait-list. If they're the same, or the wait-list is more points, then you're OK. EG an OKW ressie with a wait list for BWV either standard (equal points) or preferred (more points).

If you do it the other way around, the excess points that were holding the initial ressie are treated as a cancelled reservation. Depending on your use year and when the wait-list comes through, you could be outside your booking window and those points could go into a holding account.

Example, you reserve BWV preferred view and wait-list for standard view which would cost fewer points. The wait list comes through just a month before the end of your use year. The excess points that held the preferred view now go into a holding account since you're now outside your banking window for those points.

Wow! Do they really do that for BWV reservations?:(

I can see how that might happen going to an OKW reservation from a BWV reservation, but somehow it doesn't seem right to have points going into the holding account just to change from preferred view to standard view (same size room).

Appears to be yet another example of the value of booking in the 11 month window (and thus no need to waitlist)!:)

In the original scenario, wouldn't you need points from both BWV and OKW to book now for Dec? Maybe Kel has them, I'm just wondering for myself. Since Dec is still ten months out, if you requested BWV, and they only had OKW, you couldn't book it yet with BWV points, could you? How could MS offer it to you unless you had points at both places? Wouldn't you have to wait for the seven month window to book OKW?

Any reservation cancelled at less than 30 days will go into a holding account regardless of home resort.
