Can I make Michael's (Jerzees) shirts shrink?

We went to Michael's today and went crazy getting shirts to use with all the fabulous disigns people are making. The problem is, however, that the youth small is still WAY too big for my just turned 2 year old. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with shrinking them. I believe they are a 50/50 cotton/poly blend. I was planning to try washing one in hot and drying on high heat to see if it worked, but thought I'd ask here first. Anyone?

Hobby Lobby did have an XS, which was perfect, but only in white, so I would really like to get these smaller if possible to have some other colors too. Plus those seemed so cheap, I worry they'll shrink when I don't want them to!

I have the same problem. I have a son who isnt 2 yet, but wanted to make him a shirt for MNSSHP. I bought an orange youth small and washed it in hot then dried on high heat. It didnt get any smaller. I might hem it so it just isnt so long.
