Some of you might remember Mom and I both had surgery recently. She for a mastectomy and me for my thyroid. Everything turned out fine for both of us, but Mom is still having a difficult time. I wasn't able to be with her at all last week on account of having my own surgery, and when we did get up to see her on Saturday she wasn't doing well at all. Not eating or drinking and was barely responsive to us. Mom weighs about 100 pounds dripping wet, so she cannot afford to miss a meal. We took her right over to the hospital and they got her hooked up to an IV and within a couple hours she was better. The ER doctor said nothing was physically wrong, but he wanted the psychiatrist to speak to her in the morning. They decided, Sunday night, to transfer her to the mental health unit. I am still recovering from surgery myself, but my Dad is unable to be alone so I am staying with him. We come back to my house for a few hours in the afternoons so I can do laundry, clean and of course spend a little time here on the DIS.
We can see Mom between 6 - 8 p.m. They are trying different anti-depressent meds on her and she's having such trouble with diahrrea, and hot flashes since they had to take her Prempro away (because of the cancer). Dad has short-term memory loss so can't be left alone, and he asks the same questions over and over and over. Plus DH is a farmer so has been busy this week putting in soy beans and now he is in Ohio today for school for his "other" job in crop insurance, so I haven't had much support from him so that hasn't helped either. It's been a very difficult couple of weeks, so if anybody has a spare hug to share I sure could use it...thanks!!
