Can I get an iPhone for DD WITHOUT a data plan?

I know that if you look on EBAY there are services that sell iPhone activations on PagePlus. I just went and looked and it seems to be cost $12 to pay somebody to do it for you.

I really don't know much about how it works but I have heard of people doing things like that.

That is good to know about Pageplus as it uses Verizon, which gets better signal around this area. ATT runs 2nd and Sprint runs a VERY far behind 3rd.

So here is what I did this week after Sprint messed up my phones.....I bought an iPhone 3g off a local friend who was selling ($65). I popped a Gophone SIM in using the YouTube video of a 13 year old explaining it to me! :lmao:

Then I did ask ATT to shut off the data completely so we don't accidentally hit the button and use our $$ for data. Data can only be used in wifi.

Then I downloaded an app called TextTalk. It is free. It allows for unlimited texting and .02/min. calls. We will have 2 numbers in the phone (one through wifi app and one actual number that uses ATT minutes)

Since we are in wifi 80% of the time, this will help with using minutes. He can use the wifi based phone number in the house and out when we have wifi and the regular number can be for when we are out and need a phone.

The above was my "trial" on the cheap to see if it worked before I press Sprint to get out of my contract and hope to NEVER have a contract again with anyone.

Pay $700 and buy an iPhone without a contract. Get AT&T prepaid with it and get 200 texts for $5, 1000 texts for $10, or unlimited everything for $50. Then you don't have data. Else, get the iPhone for $100 or $200 or whatever it is now and it's contract with any of them, you have to have data with a smart phone.

Even on the GoPhones, there's the fine print about smart phones. The all in one plans do not cover data charges on smart phones, and a data plan for smart phones must be chosen. Now there is a basic plan for about $5 a month and another for $15 a month (I think, read the back of a package at the store). It's very minimal and you could go over the limit is a very short amount of time. You could select the unlimited texts and 250 minutes for $25, and then the data plan.

On my previous Nokia phone, I was prompted every time I was connected to the net. I could select a wifi spot or the data plan. Now with my Iphone, it's connected all the time. I have WiFi turned on, so when I'm home it picks up the wifi signal, and if I go out it'll ask if I want to connect to any signal it picks up. If there's no wifi signal or it's turned off, then it automatically goes to 3g. With all the push messages and apps that connect to the internet, a lot more data is being used than I thought. Thankfully when I got the phone, the AT&T guy bumped me up to the higher data plan, but at the grandfather rate ($25 instead of $30).

I pay $12 a month for my iphone through pagepluscellular My phone is paid for and I dont really use data. Its been working for me for 8 months. There are a few plans to chose from. I have the one that works for me!...I think the key is....dont tell em its an iphone! I remember a questionaire asking if it was a smart phone and I said no...:rolleyes1

Pageplus states they don't do iphones. Some people have found a way to sneak around this, but from what I've read, as soon as it's discovered you're shut off. And it usually does get discovered eventually.

to OP to have a fully functional iphone with all the cool gadgets, you have to pay it's expensive. They are SO cool, but the other options involve lots of trying to get around rules, youtube tutorials, and a partially working device,so why bother?
my dh has one for work, and the best part about it is the use of apps,or whatever, wherever you are. to be tied to wi-fi is...to play with an itouch, which is so much cheaper to begin with...like I said, why bother? I don't get it....:confused3

Yes, you can have an iPhone with just the data plan. Our daughter just left for Ausralia for 2 years. She had the unlimited data plan with AT&T an didn't want to lose it (they don't offer unlimited anymore- she was grandfathered in) The AT&T rep said she could get the $9.95 plan (which is calls only- no data). She is on our plan so my bill went down about $70.00. When she gets back she can bring her data plan back.

I am sorry you don't get it. OP asked if she could get an iphone without a data plan and we are answering. Some people want to pay $12 and not $99 per month and are willing to sacrifice data on the network as they have good access to wifi most of the time. If that doesn't work for you, then you pay more, but for some of us, this is completely adequate.

I believe you are right....but it still works!!:cheer2: I purchase a more expensive plan if I want to have more data for the month...

If you gave them the serial number on the phone when you activated it, they know its an iphone. :confused3

Yup. I signed up knowing that was a possibility. But it has been 8 months so far with no problems. I have save $150 a month on my cell phone bill by making this change to the prepaid plan. So far...that is $1200 Disney money to spend!! As much as I like Verizon, Ill prolly never go back. I was devoted to them since I got my first analog cell phone (early 90s).

There are many reviews you can read online and they are mixed both good and bad. The way I see it, the worse thing that can happen is they shut the phone off....and I have several phones lying around that I would just turn on instead.

Dont get me wrong, I was totally nervous about using them at first, but its been well worth it. I have waited for customer service for about 30 minutes once....but that is the price you pay for the savings you get. Luckily I have not needed customer service for anything else.

I think the service if free if you port a number or $10 for a new number straight through the pageplus website....at least it was back in December
