As far as gate checking the car seat vs. checking up front being easier, it depends on the age of the child and the type of car seat/stroller. If you have a little baby, and one of the strollers that the car seat snaps on to, it might be easier to just snap the car seat on the stroller and let the little one sleep in it at the terminal. Then you just check the car seat and stroller at the gate. We've done that the past couple of times, but now our baby is big enough he doesn't sit in the car seat in the stroller and it would be easier to check the car seat up front.
