Can I gate check a carseat and a stroller?

This is our first vacation ever and I have no idea what I'm doing! Please help! I am sure that as my days get closer that I will have a billion more questions. Thank god I have somewhere to come to get all the answers. Thx!!

We gate checked a stroller with Delta this March, don't know why you couldn't do both.

You can do both, though I wonder why you would want to. The only reason I can think of is that you're traveling with a child under the age of 2 and are hoping that there is an empty seat for you to use a car seat. If that's the case, you're doing the right thing. If you're carrying a car seat to the gate just to gate check it to minimize damage than you're doing a lot of lugging for not much. We have one of those car seat bags, and it works GREAT. It keeps the seat clean and we've never had a problem with it getting damaged.

If you didn't buy the child a seat, I would just plan on checking the car seat when you check the luggage. You can ask then if there are lots of empty seats, but lately there aren't many flights with empty seats.

As far as gate checking the car seat vs. checking up front being easier, it depends on the age of the child and the type of car seat/stroller. If you have a little baby, and one of the strollers that the car seat snaps on to, it might be easier to just snap the car seat on the stroller and let the little one sleep in it at the terminal. Then you just check the car seat and stroller at the gate. We've done that the past couple of times, but now our baby is big enough he doesn't sit in the car seat in the stroller and it would be easier to check the car seat up front.

We have gate checked both on Southwest. I would NEVER check my stroller with baggage unless it was made of steel. We did not buy a seat for our 6 month old and on the trip back, we were able to take our infant seat on the plane for the baby as the flight was not full.
