We are new members to the DVD and we already had a trip planned for September with deluxe dining and a 6 day base ticket. We decided to keep that trip and pay for it (staying at POFQ, cheaper this way free dining), so on day 6, can I upgrade my 6 day base ticket to a DVD annual pass, can I get the DVD discount this way? Thanks for any advice!

Yes you can upgrade the MYW tickets to an DVC AP. Once you use the MYW tickets you have 14 days to perform any upgrades.

When you upgrade to the AP, the date for the AP will be the first day you used the original pass. Since the AP is a "hopper" you might as well upgrade it on day 2 so you can "hop". Waiting will not add any days to the AP.
Remember you will need your Blue Member card and photo ID.

Will the price of that MYW ticket be applied to the cost of DVC AP discounted rate?
And is there any benefit to doing this? We have a 10 night (11 day) trip planned and all we can get are 10 day passes so that leaves 1 day with no ticket. We are considering an AP.

If you use the MYW ticket once, then the current ticket price will be applied to the cost of the discounted AP. (So if you got a discount on the MYW ticket, you make out even better).

If you are there 11 days, you might consider Downtown Disney or DisneyQuest or even water park for one day also. Of course if you get AP, then you would get the AP discount for those also.

If the cost of the 10 day ticket is less than or equal to the price of the DVC discounted ticket then the price will be applied and you will pay the balance when you upgrade the ticket. If it is more than the cost I do not believe you will get any money back so be careful. I could be wrong about that but be certain to check. If you are planning another trip within the next year that would end before the date (month and day) of the start of the first one the AP would definitely be the way to go since you can get two trips out of it.

Thanks for the info, but won't I have to pay more if I upgrade on day 2 since I paid for a 6 day base ticket. I was thinking a 6 day base ticket upgrade to a Dvc annual pass would be about $500 for an adult. If I do it on day 2 it will be more right?

No, when you upgrade a ticket, you get the value of the ticket. It is not based on how many days you have used so far.

So, if you bought a 6 day MWY ticket, it probably cost around $258. When you upgrade it, you will pay the difference between that price and a new DVC AP, around $425. So, your cost to upgrade should be $167.

So, I would use it and then go upgrade it, since, as others said, it will give you the ability to hop parks from the start.

The best place to get accurate ticket upgrade info is the "STICKY Thread" at the top of the Theme Parks Forums. The author is Cheshire Figment, a CM who often works in Ticketing & Guest Relations. The info on upgrading to annual passes is in post #7.

A DVC AP or PAP is the same as a "regular" AP or PAP. It just has a discounted price.

P.S. I agree with Bill - If you are going to upgrade, do it right away after you use it for the first time to enter a park. That will allow you to park hop. A base ticket does not.
